trackball users

I was thinking of getting a trackball mouse since my desk doesn't have much room for alot of mouse hand movement. Am I going to be crippled in gaming if I do this, or is it simple enough to adapt to? Thanks.

With mice, you can have most of your fingers and thumb free for clicking while moving, while with a t'ball you have at least the thumb (or some fingers) in use while moving. OTOH, it wouldn't cost much to try a Logi Marble Mouse (actually a t'ball) and find out (some places say the MM is a two button device when it's actually 4-button).

I use a Logitech Trackman Wheel mouse. The only thing missing is added buttons and the persision of a good laser mouse. You didn't mention what kind of gaming you do but i find a trackball to be better in most cases. I always hated having to pick the mouse up and reposition it on the pad to continue movments. I can do a 360 degree sweep with a simple flick of my thumb in WoW. Sure you can do the same with a nice laser mouse but then you have to have it good and sensitive.

I use a Logitech Cordless Optical trackman, got buttons up the ass, you use your two middle fingers and not your thumb, stay away from that kind, pain in the ass with games. The one with the ball in the middle is the ONLY one I will ever use. It makes games easier for me, especially some of my bowling games, or shooting games. You dont have to keep picking up the mouse and re-setting it like you would with the "normal" kind, and with mine you can assign the buttons which there is about 8 of them. Battery lastes many months and I use it 12-14 hours a day, everyday.

I also have the marble mouse, it was my first Logitech one, its good two, again uses the two middle finger, or one , and works well for games too, just less buttons and its a usb so no wireless, but at $20~ vs $60 it would be a good one to test the waters with. Can be found at justdeals.com or ebay for a good price. Also if your a gamer of the 90's you will come to love the trackball over any other kind no matter what once you start using it, and adjust it to your liking. I havent used a regular typer mouse as my main in over 8 years after I got my first one from Compusa, a 4 button clear one that lit up. for $20, after that day, I was hooked and no going back, made anything you did on the computer sooooo much easier, and more precise control, at least for me.

AFAIK, the Marble Mouse is a combo unit - USB but has an adapter for PS/2. I just don't get a cordless trackball - totally unnecessary complication and expense...

Agreed. The whole idea behind a cordless mouse is to get the cord out of the way of the mouses movements. Well a trackball mouse stays in one place so the cord is never in the way.
