Tracing your Family's American History

Interesting. Mine is fairly easy, along with half of all Americans, they came through Ellis Island at the turn of the century.

August, 1677. Arrived on the ship Kent, landed at Raccoon Creek, Maryland. His wife and two children died in transit. He was a cordwainer (made rope), married the bosses daughter at the factory. She died, he ripped off the inheritance for her five children.

Married again (some say twice), had twelve children. When he died, he willed all of his estate to the children of the bosses daughter - apparently as pennance for his misdeed.

I have one ancestor that came over on the May Flower when New England was first settled. My family name didn't come over until the English Civl War in the 1600s.

my most recent ancestor to came over from Malaysia: my mom😀

Just added more details above. I'm lucky in that a huge branch of my family is Mormon. One cousin, a few generations removed (of course) made the pilgrimage with Brigham Young.

My original ancestor was named Pieter De(s) Tringham. He was French by heritage - family had fled France for England in 1572. That got crunched to Peter Stringham, so everyone in North America with that last name is related.

My great-grandparents came over from Germany after WWI. They bought a house in West Virginia (that is still in the family). I have family over there and hope to visit some time.

I LOVE my German history!
