Tracing a hacker through a proxy...

...is it possible? I've had my Dixiesys accuont terminated by someone who hacked into my support account through a proxy and told them to cancel it. Basically the person posed as me, and had it terminated. Is there anyway to trace it back to someone and get them in trouble for that?

I would think you would need access to their logs. Then you would get the IP of the Proxy ... you would then need to gain entry to the proxy and search for a log file there ... etc ..

Its possible ... but probably not worth the effort.

You would definitely need logs (if any are being kept), or atleast access to the machine with the permissions to basically do what you want incase that person comes back. Your best bet, if you are losing money because of this, is to contact the police or the local FBI.
