Mother's Day Special until May 15th.

Tracfone has a refurbished Nokia 5100 series phone, 60 days service, and 60 minutes calling time promotion for the price of one 60 minute calling card.

My research shows these pre paid units are best for those of us who use less than 75 minutes calling time per month or want a vacation phone for a month or so.

Great deal! I am looking to unload my Cingular service right now to look for a cheaper, more uncommited service.

Be aware that there are roaming charge and long distance charges outside your subsribe are.
My friend got one to use for vacation and he found out he have to pay extra.

To use locally is ok.

What do you guys think of this for replacing land line service.
Illinois government caved to SBC and I'm sick of dealing with the phone co. anyway. It's a huge monthly bill, this could seriously help.

You make it sound like there are (1) roaming charges and (2) long distance charges. That's not the case.

If you use the term "roaming" to mean "leaving your home area", you're correct, it costs more.
And if you use the term "long distance" to mean "leaving your home area" then you are also correct in that it costs more
But if you use the term "long distance" to mean "making a phone call from your home to someplace across the country" then you are not correct. It does not cost more.

If you are "roaming" out of your home area, then every call you make is 2-credits/min whether it is "local" or "long distance.

If you are in your home area, then every call you make is 1-credit/min whether it is "local" or "long distance.

I don't see the Nokia 5100 on the ecallplus website. Anyone know if it can be switched over or is the phone locked to Tracfone service?

Here's an update to the local calling area info.

Go to the tracfone.com website and click on the "coverage map" link. Then type in:

60607 (which is Chicago)
64101 (Kansas City, MO)
75201 (Dallas, TX)
30301 (Atlanta, GA)
02101 (Boston, MA)
53201 (Milwaukee, WI)
37501 (Memphis, TN)

or a slew of other places and you'll see that those all share the SAME home coverage area. So if you live in one of those cities, you can be in any other one of those cities and still be in your home area. In other words, no roaming charges, 1 credit/min and free long distance.

I'm five states away from my Tracfone phone number's area code and I'm still local. Sweet.
