Awesome. I got my HD 4830 for $90, and it has been a long time since you could get a good card for that kind of price. The 6870 at 190 is interesting, particularly if they get down to around 150 at retail.

I want to see Nvidia come out with lower priced cards as well.

And yes, those prices are in Euros, but prices in the US should be more or less the same.

That is great welcome news.
Someone at AMD wants to shake things up.

The other part of the release, the magic driver that is going to
considerable performance improvements to all Radeon HD 6000 series GPUs
Is a little forum hype. Call me skeptical :)

Weren't they supposed to be raising prices in January?
I guess they got it wrong and pressed the down button and not the up button.

Figures, I just bought a 5870 at $200...had I known this was coming, I might have saved a few bucks for better crossfire later on. Ahwell!

You surely can't find it that hard to believe. The 6900 series has a new shader design and a new tessellation design. AMD should be able to squeeze more performance from drivers. At least, at this point in time, they should get bigger improvements out of the 6900 series than the 5000 and rest of the 6000 lineup.

Well, there are $199 AR 6870s on the egg already.

There is also a $180 powercolor card on there.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4135/nvidias-geforce-gtx-560-ti-upsetting-the-250-market

1920x 1200: 6950 1gb vs 560ti:

crysis_____: 6950= 48.6fps vs 560ti= 43.6fps
Battforge__: 6950= 58.0fps vs 560ti= 65.0fps
Metro2033_: 6950= 35.0fps vs 560ti= 31.0fps
HAWK_____: 6950= 108 fps vs 560ti= 119 fps
CIV5______: 6950= 34.6fps vs 560ti= 49.9fps
BF badc___: 6950= 62.4fps vs 560ti= 61.7fps
STALKER__: 6950= 52.0fps vs 560ti= 44.1fps
Dirt2______: 6950= 71.0 fps vs 560ti= 82.6 fps
Masseffect2: 6950= 78.2 fps vs 560ti= 74.0 fps
Wolfs_____: 6950= 102.6fps vs 560ti= 89.4fps

4 out of 9 games, the 560 ti is faster than the 6950 1gb.

Price differnce is 9$ or less supposedly... so probably come down to what kinda deals you can find with shipping ect which is cheaper.

You've gotta be kidding me. I paid $330 for my 6950 at Microcenter less than a week ago. /cry

EDIT: Nvm, didn't see that those prices are in euro. I don't feel too bad now.

Once AMD or Nvidia has $50-100 advantage for the same performance....I will care.

Right now, it's neck to neck in almost ALL price points.

You make it sound like a bad thing.

When price and performance match from both sides, it means they are in close competition. You only get the $50-$100 gaps when performance doesn't match.

Sorry guys. When I posted it there were only the Euro prices up. The USD conversion was added later. I'm was under the impression that, even though there's a difference in the value of the dollar and the Euro, that in the end the prices end up the same (or very close), because of markets. The title "slashes" is TPU's. There was no attempt to sensationalize for this board.

Ahh, they updated the article for that. The article claimed Euros but listed $189, $225, $239 using the wrong symbol, and had no USD listed. Still, if MSRP on a 6950 2GB is $269 I might hold out for an instant rebate down to $239 or so and pick one up.

Assholes... I just bought a 6850 for $180.

LOL hardware gets cheaper and faster all the time. I've gotten over this feeling you're having in 15 years of playing with this stuff.:) Just buy and enjoy and don't look back.
