TPM or Trusted Platform Module

I see it more as a way to lock down pc's.
Vendor tie in (ie: microsoft os)
Pretty sure the fbi will get your files regardless if they have the physical components.

FROM the wikipedia info on it, it's primarily for protection from hackers, which from recent news stories, even the FBI (and other LE I'm sure) are doing

but the part that caught my attention was that even if someone has physical possession of your computer, they're not going to be able to read the data on your drives, internal or external

Current estimates of TPM security have it at 10-12 hours (of physical control) before it can be broken by a well-funded attacker.

Also keep in mind that a TPM with disk encryption provides no defense when your computer is turned on.

It's also important to understand threat levels and what you are trying to protect against. Bitlocker may be back-doored by MS and the NSA, may be weakened in Win10 without the Elephant Diffuser, and may store your decryption keys in the One Drive cloud if you log into Win10 with a MS account, but it's still going to stop some random thief from accessing my files if he steals my laptop.
