Brand loyalty is stupid but its how most people buy their cars.
personally, I like changing as there are 400 different kinds of cars in NA
I guess some are finding out that Toyota is just another car company after all, still a very good one tho.

You may recall the shock from last year's survey in which three Toyota models ? the Camry V6, Tundra V8 4WD and Lexus GS AWD ? all fell below average in predicted reliability. Consumer Reports says that those three models have clawed their way back up to average reliability scores, while every other Toyota, Lexus and Scion model in the survey scored average or better. Finally, while European brands are reportedly improving their reliability, many models remain below average and Land Rover has again came up dead last with all four of its SUVs scoring far below average. Oh, and remember when Jeremy Clarkson called the Chrysler Sebring Convertible the "worst car in the entire world"? Apparently CR subscribers who own one agree, scoring it worst in reliability of all the models surveyed and 283% below the average.
And here is a shocker:
"Also, Ford is reportedly pulling away from its domestic rivals in the reliability arena with the majority of its models, including Lincoln and Mercury vehicles, now scoring above the industry average. "

Toyota Motor Corp.?s Scion brand topped the list of most reliable cars in Consumer Reports? annual vehicle reliability rankings released Thursday, as Asian automakers continued to crowd the top of the magazine?s rankings.
In this year?s study, Honda Motor Co.?s Acura and Honda lines ranked right behind Scion, followed by the Toyota nameplate and Toyota?s luxury brand, Lexus. Asian names occupied all of the magazine?s top 10 slots, with a domestic automaker not appearing on the list until No. 11 with Ford Motor Co.?s Lincoln brand.

Bullcrap, Accords have been made in the US since 80 and Camry's at least 20 yrs

Ford, in all fairness, is currently using derivatives of the Mazda MZR inline-four (A.K.A. Duratec) engines in many of their cars - and Mazda engines have always been ahead of the curve. (The Protege had continuously variable valve timing long before many other cars). GM's Ecotec line, on the other hand, still is less efficient and less powerful than their Honda counterparts - just compare the Civic to the Saturn Astra. And then there's the Vue, which is, interestingly enough, sold with a Honda V6.
My parents have a CRV. It is endlessly reliable (nearing six years old with not a single problem!), incredibly safe (I was in the passenger seat when someone plowed into the right side at high speed....and walked right out!), and surprisingly efficient (30.8MPG over a 400 mile highway trip is my father's record.)
Before this, my father bought Acura Integra. Even at ten years of age, the car worked flawlessly. It wasn't even rusty. Sure, the cloth seats had had better days...but it was !@#$ old!
That said, there are some real dogs coming out of Japan, too - notably the Nissan Versa, which was rated below even the awful Chevrolet (technically Daewoo) Aveo in reliability, and numerous deathtrap Suzukis including the gas-guzzling Grand Vitara.
Toyotas are, as many others in this thread have stated, white goods. They are for people who hate driving and want to put as little money and thought into it as possible. As such, they are unpleasant to sit in and inexpensive to buy. Hondas are a little better, though the elimination of the double-A-arm front and independent rear suspension in the Civics of old is a bit disappointing. Which is why I would recommend buying a Mazda instead.

Its also rated on MSN auto's as one of the 3 cheapest cars to maintain in ALL classes not just the Sub compacts.
Quality nowadays you have to remember isn't the tranny fell out of this thing, its more like the make-up mirror light quit. On the Versa the first ones had two problems which affected almost all of them initially driving down their quality scores which has since been corrected.
Its also rated on MSN auto's as one of the 3 cheapest cars to maintain in ALL classes not just the Sub compacts.

Yep when it comes to auto studies its another tool
What you look for is consistency between all the studies.
EG a Civic rocks in all of them so I'm pretty confident its built solid, I owned a 95 no complaints. I'm unlikly to own another as I look forward to trying any of the other 400 cars available on the market.

Toyota had about a 10 year run where they made above average cars, say mid 1980s-mid1990s. Notice I didn't say GREAT cars, just above average - and during that time the average was SO LOW that Toyota's products IMO weren't anything to write home about.
After that they have been just average IMO.

The new Tundra is far more comfortable than the F150.
