True, though I do think it reflects a general lack of intelligence by the average consumer. People buy stupid garbage all the time. Popular trends usually indicate the lowest common denominator in thought (pop music, movies, food, tv, and even vehicle choice).

Best example is SUV vs. Minivan.

In almost every situation, a minivan will do a better job than an SUV. Better fuel economy, superior safety, more interior room, easier to get in and out of, lower insurance, lower maintenance costs, more standard features, etc, etc.

But, Minivans aren't 'cool' or 'popular', so average Joe shit-for-brains buys an SUV.

Free market FTW, but average dumbass FTMFL.

Very true. A coworker was looking to get a new car, a Dodge Magnum would've been absolutely perfect for him, but he didn't want to be seen in a station wagon. If cars weren't sold by image, there would be no V6 Mustangs.

The OP makes a good point. People are always talking about torque this, torque that.

What matters is area under the horsepower curve during the time you are accelrating. Peak numbers don't mean much.

they raise the price of gasoline for everyone around them, add extra pollution to the air, and embroil us in pointless wars to fund their gasoline addiction while they vote against the taxes that would force them to internalize their externalities and end the subsidy to them?

Go smell your farts somewhere else.

Go gas guzzlers!!!!

Actually I share your opinion, only it has do do with all those big trucks with a single occupant (who aren't using it for work) or those new blocky muscle car wannabee gaz guzzlers. As gas is becoming more expensive I see more and more people changing their attitudes about what a car should be. At least the Prius is a step in the right direction.

What do you care what they drive or what they are using it for? If someone wants to drive a 8,000 lb truck all by themselves for recreation and never get a drop of mud on it thats their problem.

Wasn't aware we lived in a country where other peoples possessions were determined by your judgment of whether they needed them or not, but by the market principle where people are free to exchange their own labor and income on whatever they want.

Al Gore called, he says you're not finished with his kawk. C02 and water are pollutants now?

Would like to know how my getting gas changes the price for you and 300 million other people who all drive. Maybe all of you should stop driving so gas is cheaper for me.

How do we determine then who gets it and who doesn't? Oh yeah supply and demand and price. Lets see who can last out the longest.

Do you also whine that rich people paying for Ferraris prevents you from affording one?

He is entitled to his opinion, I am entitled to mine. Oil won't last forever and will only get to be more and more expensive. The sooner we get off of it and switch to alternatives the better. If you want to keep driving a gas hog that is your choice, but don't complain when gas is $10 a gallon and our soldiers are dieing overseas to secure oil fields.

Nice torque figures, but I remember this one time we went to the mountains to snow board. There were three of us in the Prius and guess what happened? Two of us had to get out and push the dang thing up to the hotel. I could care less about the figures, show me the action/proof. Stuff on paper is useless.

To all the people saying torque makes a car fast, it is only true to a certain extent. Torque is the kick in the butt off the line, but its HP that wins the race. Of course if you're doing a very very short race, torque may be better 😉

Actually, the stuff on paper isn't completely useless when you look at the right numbers. It doesn't really matter how much power an engine makes if none of it goes to the wheels.

I'm guessing you missed this, so I'll quote it for you:

i missed the line for the dyno sheet, what is it trying to state? The flat tq ? And notice it doesn't go below 2750 rpm....useless for actual working.

Far from useless. Read the threads if you want. http://priuschat.com/forums/pr...s-my-chassis-dyno.html and http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t106804.html
It shows that even if the electric engine can make 295ft-lb of torque at 1200rpms, there isn't anywhere near as much throughout the rest of the power band going to the wheels. OP still fails because no one would be stupid enough to claim a car is fast based solely on having X amount of torque at 1200rpms, especially when they know it's a freaking Prius in the first place.

Sorry, mb, you've been skoorbed. You epic fail for not having a sense of humor. Get to the shop pronto and get your sarcasm meter checked, cause that thing is more broke than an IROC driver. And those guys are so broke that they can only afford to get the front part of their hair cut, and not the back. So that's pretty broke, my friend.

The entire point of this thread was to use a bit of satire to point out how retarded it is to think that peak torque is what makes the car go really fast, which is what you hear a lot of people saying on these boards and elsewhere.

I know you were being sarcastic, but the funny was not found. Perhaps I don't read these boards enough, because I haven't seen one single person say that peak torque is what makes a car go really fast. I don't think anyone really thinks peak torque is all that matters. Yes, anyone who does is a dumb ass, but your attempt at humor failed, especially using a Prius as an example.

Are you going to tell me that one million IROC drivers are WRONG? Come ON, man! The IROC is so fast it even makes the driver's hair get longer in the back than in the front! And this thing has even more torque off the line.

Pssst...your bias is showing. Two IROC / mullet / broke-ass jokes in the same thread? Did someone in an IROC flip you off or something? Run over your dog?

Oh...and the Camaro / mullet crack might just be the most played-out, oldest joke in automotive history. Zero originality FTL. Of course, that might be expected from someone driving a boring cookie-cutter Accord.

I'm stating the dyno #'s are useless since you don't know what power you have where you need it, i just phrased it wrong. I also meant the prius's spec of the tq rating at 0rpm is useless. They don't give any other rpm ratings in the OP article.
