Any car that can only do 30mpg highway does not deserve to be called an economy car. They should've just put a corolla motor in there.

I got 35mpg going 75mph with the AC turned off in my Scion TC, driving from VA to CA

When I did turn the AC on, MPG dropped to 31

And I had nearly all my belongings packed into my Scion TC, i had the rear seats folded down and got a lot of room with the hatchback

That's horrible gas mileage for a car that small.
I get 34 mpg on the highway out of my wife's Saturn L100 (yes, the midsize car) with the AC turned on.

Eh, no big surprise. On a side note, I wasn't impressed with what you got with the tC. When I was buying a new car, it boiled down to the tC and then Mazda 3. Guess which one I got, and I love it to death. :D

Yep. Toyota's quality is going downhill both in terms of materials used and the way they are built.

Scion tC sports coupe? That doesn't sound right. In fact, it made me laugh. Toyota Corolla sports coupe... even that sounds more believable.

Its got a big engine for a small car, 2.4, 0-60 7.4 seconds

And the glass roof doesnt help with the weight

That's no excuse, the Cobalt has the same size engine and gets 34 mpg hwy.

But the resale value of the tC will be MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the Cobalt.

They should recall them all and take them permanently off the road so we wouldn't have to look at those ugly cars.
 The tC is extremely good looking for a cheap car. Or do you just have no idea what you're talking about?

fixed.

Is this recall really about changing the name from 'Sports Coupe'?

According to the EPA www.fueleconomy.gov the tC does 30mpg highway, 23 city, which indead is pretty horrible for a car that small.

Which is horrible considering the larger heavier camry gets 33 highway with the same engine. Thats why it was dropped pretty quickly from my list of cars to buy.

last I checked size of the car wasn't the basis for it's mileage.

It's not even if it's a V8 vs 4 cylinder.

Displacement, gearing and power levels are what the determining factors usually entail.

With mileage of 23 city and 30 highway with the manual, the tC is not a "economy" car. The 4-cylinder Camry gets that kind of mileage.

A small car, a cheap car, a reliable car, yes. An economy car, no.

you sound like the fanboy

the Scion TC is cheaper than the Cobalt 2.4 and the 2.4 wasnt even out when I purchased my Scion TC 2.5 years ago. Anyway im not a Toyota fanboy. My next car will be a Nissan.
