Toyota is seeking information to prepare a path for entry into NASCAR's Busch Series, according to a report Saturday in That's Racin', the online motorsports component of The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer.

The report says Busch Series officials confirmed Toyota has inquired about NASCAR rules for manufacturer participation in the Busch Series. However, NASCAR has received no proposals yet for a car model or engine.

Toyota achieved success with a factory-supported endeavor in the now defunct NASCAR Goody's Dash Series for subcompact sedans in 2001-2003, and began competing last year in the Craftsman Truck Series with its Tundra pickup brand and a special-for-NASCAR 5.7-liter V8 engine.

A Busch Series effort would take the Japanese automaker on a different route compared with Dodge, which jumped from the Truck Series to the Cup ranks in 2001.

What this means to you: Toyota is serious about working itself into the fabric of American life. Whether this current tack will work all depends on your opinion about the evolution of NASCAR from a strictly American sport to one with international flavor.

Thoughts?

They may as well, seeing as NASCAR doesn't believe in "stock" cars anymore. :(

That said...I wonder which model they plan to introduce as a NASCAR racecar? Camry just doesn't have that racing image, while Avalon is even more of a joke. Gotta be a Solara or a new model.

Doesn't really matter which one they use since NASCAR's stupid common body template will mean it will look just like the other three's cars other then the headlight stickers and the grill. Anyway the more makes the better.

Well the car will be like all the other cars - same from the hood to the rear window with the nose and some of the rear decklid unique. Mostly it'll be about the engine and the driver lineup. Like every other brand in NASCAR.

I used to like NASCAR, defended it against it being redneck and oval only, but these new rules they've been coming up with the past few years.....

I remember when toyota put a truck in the truck series. It brought out all the jingoistic racists who were calling it a cultural invasion of american, jap crap etc..

In the end, WHO CARES?!?!!?
Cars that race around tracks and such are not what are produced on the assembly line for the average drive and are just extremely fast moving advertisements.

fvck that!! and i cant stress that enough, Ford is the PERFECT sponsor for 24, nothing can compete with teh bold innovative, explorers, expeditions, excursions, f-150s, etc... that we've seen on 24. plus hell would have to freeze over before the american government even considered purchasing foreign crap for their fleet,

ps. i bet no toyota could withstand the damage that the crown vic with chohe and the other chick took in tonites eppy

that's because the guy didn't the crown vic from the back....if he did, the car would have went BOOM!!!!! IIRC, the city of Dallas and some other cities are still suing Ford for their 'defective' cars (that is if you consider getting rear-ended in a crown vic cruiser and the gas tank exploding a defect)....
