MR2s have not ALWAYS sucked. The turbo and supercharged versions of the past were pretty cool cars.

damn didnt know they still made the Celica. When i bought my camry the only cars i saw were Camry's, Corollas, Solaras, MR-2 Spyder, Matrix and the prius... I went to several dealers too.

I agree, I liked the last generation of the MR2.

Might be good news. Maybe there'll be a performance tC and a new Supra or something to round out the sporting side of Toyota.
Or, they've completely given up and want a full 100% over 50yr/old clientele.

I don't see the point of the Celica/MR2 since nobody seems to be buying them. Image my arse!

I like the looks of the 94-98 Celicas, but I agree the last good one was the 90-93 All-Trac Turbo.

yes, it handled beautifully and was perfectly balanced. I'd love to pick one up as a project car.

MR2s have not always sucked... and as previously said... the all-trac celicas were nice... even better were the GT4s... if only we actually get the good stuff. :frown:

EDIT: Wow that article is a year old... how come no one else picked this up? This is actually the first time I've heard about it...

I actually see quite a lot of MR2's, and I would like one, so would my Dad.
But then I live in the UK, so it might be different over here :p

(MK 2 MR2 of course, second one)

And there are a fair few Celicas around here too.

I think there are 2 MR2's and 2 Celica's in a fairly small town in the middle of the countryside in the UK. Which is quite a lot ;)
Especially given the number of old people around here.

Thank God. Those things are junk anyway. Toyota is obviously very serious about distancing itself from any car with peformance characteristics.

My guess is they're going to be lost in the HP wars unless they release something competative.

Holy crap, have you ever DRIVEN one?

I agree that the horsepower is lacking, but the handling is awesomely fun. I mean, you can't beat a dead reliable, 34 mpg, RWD mid-engine car that handles like a go-kart for $2000. Those things can stop and turn on a dime.
