What incentives did Toyota get from California to locate those jobs there in the first place?

Dell paid back everything it owed to NC as far as I know.

Why does the state have to offer incentives for a company to move their operations there?

California has:
- excellent college graduate pool
- predictable weather patterns
- infrequent natural disasters (earthquakes)

They're moving to Kentucky and Michigan because their real estate is cheap because no one wants to live there.

Michigan is actually a great place to live if employment is not an issue. The City of Detroit itself only occupies a small area of land and it has some very nice upper middle class suburbs that encompass an area with hundreds of lakes (Oakland County). The cost of living and the cost of housing and land relative to other states is also low. It's also an outdoorsman's paradise.

I'd like to see 90% of the state's population move out. There is nothing more sickening than to run into some up tight high pressure New York, King of Egos type fucking up our laid back California sunshine culture.

California is for people who enjoy being for the sake of being. You want to make something of yourself, go fuck yourself somewhere else.

ahhaahhahaha california people can stay in the state. god knows the rest of us don't want your budget problems.

Companies are doing this in NY, too. Taxes, believe it or not, scare away businesses that can make the same thing just a single state line over.

If California cut off all the welfare leeches, where do you think they are going to go?

that's like saying IF congress spent money and crafted policy wisely, we wouldn't be in this shitheap. sure, it's theoretically possible, but it's almost impossible practically speaking.

san francisco just decided to ease up penalties on drivers without insurance or licenses because it makes it harder for people to get to work... riiiiiiiiiiiight.

This is what happens when the cost of doing business is simply too much and other states are much more competitive. You incent business and productivity with low taxes, not punish them.

In theory your points are very valid, but the fact of the matter is that California still has one of the biggest economies in the world (not to mention the biggest one in the US by a fair margin), and pays much more in federal taxes than it receives in income. Not bad for such a business-unfriendly place!

Tennessee paid a shit ton of money (Thanks Bredeson... our democratic governer FTL) to get Nissan to move their headquarters to Tennessee.

But I know the Nissan employees that came from California liked purchasing 3000 square foot homes that cost about 1/2 the price of the broom closets they were living in.

Nissan made money on the move. Sold their land in Cali which paid for the land here + a spanking new campus. Plus all the employees got money from the good taxpayers of Tennessee to move their belongings.

Which are all the right reasons to move.

Sorry, but California is a diverse state. Your mono-culture beliefs are archaic.

It has great agriculture for one. The state does produce a lot and that is a business that cannot be relocated.

Personally I'm just the opposite, I'd much prefer Kentucky or Michigan to California.

G-d's country > bowl of granola.

Dogs belong in doghouses, flies beong on manure, different strokes.

The south is highly disrespectful of Jesus' teachings.

Yeah... encourage all them opportunist folks to other states. We here are quite happy with food production and retired people! Let the young folks earn a living to support the SS recipients... Just send the checks here and we'll spend them.

We need to foster the new industry of Retired Folks... The youngsters who like to surf and stuff can provide the Service aspects the Oldies need... The Illegals can do the farming and grape pluckin.:sneaky:

Delta and NW merge was there any doubt were the HQ was going to reside? Yeah the idiots in MN actually believed in our high tax state they would stay here. NWs HQ is now on the market looking for tenents to lease and the nice paying jobs are either in Atlanta or eliminated for good.

Where does his "teachings" come into a modern business's fiscal policy.

California is not making itself to be more business friendly by avoiding putting its house in order.

One thing this shows is that it should be illegal to give tax abatements. It punishes the homeowner who never gets a tax abatement and cant afford to move. So leave california and move to michigan.

The federal government should count tax abatements as income as payment-in-kind.
