I wonder why.

good question since cars have little to do with politics and auto news posts are generally posted here.

and since i don't willingly pass through the gates of hell, i'm sorry, but i wouldn't know it was already posted in that sh!thole.

that's kinda what i was thinking, too. but it's a good way to explain it to the US public... "it's, to help you guys out!" 😀

The same thing happened in the late 70s and early 80s. What was the outcome? Americans still paid for the higher prices! HAHA.

So even if Toyota raised prices it wouldn't matter, people will still pay more for quality. History repeats itself.

Thats exactly what I thought when I heard it on the radio today.

Nice spin on an across the board price increase. "It is not for our gain, it is to assist you stupid dolts."

They should not do it. I am sick of the US dragging their heals. I used to be all for US cars 10 years ago but now I am not.

There is no reason that GM cars should be inferior to Toyota. They either learn to play the game or they learn to file chapter 11.

The worst thing is that the government could offer subsidies to help promote the growth of domestic products. OUR tax money going to GM! NO.

GM is cutting 25,000 jobs! Toyota/Honda are creating new jobs HERE in the states. Surprised?

GM should have cut closer to 50k jobs. That would have cut their costs enough to help their turnaround.

no no no this is to pay for thier new truck in the NASCAR craftsman truck racing... has anyone even noticed that they are now involved in the racing scene?

There must be other vested interest for Toyota to raise price other than to help American competitions. Don?t Toyota have investment in American auto companies, and increasing the price because they want more money when there is less competition. However, other auto makers such as Honda & Hyundai will fill the gap where Toyota left of.

If GM fails do you realize how bad that is going to be for the U.S?

The U.S can come down hard on Japanese car companies if the top U.S car companies start to close plants.

I don't think there is much of a backlash against Toyota, I'm sure there will be some, but Americans love their Toyota cars and trucks too much. With all GM's heavy incentives, people are still buying imports at a record pace. GM is still hoping their next truck/SUV will save the day, while gas is hitting record high every year. From the fiasco with Fiat ($2billion down the drain), boring new models such as the redesigned Malibu and new G6 are off to a slow start, minivans that are ugly, old models of SUV and pickup, costly benefit to retirees and older workers...the list goes on and on. GM is laying off people and closing off plants to make Wall Street happy, I'm yet to see a plan to make car buyers flooding GM dealership. If GM shows the same passion and excitement for making cars as the people who worked to design the new Corvette, GM wouldn't be in the situation it's in now. GM has a bunch of brilliant engineers, but the bean counters and the top management people always think about profit ahead of making the best cars. Enough ranting from me.
