Toyota Matrix

So, I am shopping for a new car. Today I went to the Toyota Dealership. I test drove a bunch of the cars... I liked the Corolla and the Matrix for my price range. What do you think of this car? Is it any good?

At first I thought the car was kind of ugly, but the more I look at pictures and stuff, the more I like it.

Anyway, let me know what you think.

another yea for matrix when it comes to available space. i'd go for corolla though when it comes to looks.

I was looking into getting a corolla when it came out... matrix.. im not a big fan of. A loaded corolla/matirx runs around 18k at the dealer (rims, leather, moonroof..cd.cassette) I'd opt for a Toyota Camry SE. 4 Cylinder, 5 speed, rims, cd/cassette, leather under 20K at carsdirect.com. More room, power, finer instrumnet panel everything.. plus it looks AWSOME in ivory white. Camry is also superbly reliable 🙂

As far as reliability, all Toyota cars are pretty good.
As far as styling, I am not sure anymore... the corolla just has a big puffy looking body. the Matrix's is bigger, but it fits the car better.

I like the Vibe better than the Matrix, but Toyota's service is better than Pontiac's in my experience.

I say screw both of them and get a Mazda Protege 5

I test drove a 5 speed matrix XR this weekend. No balls, no pull anywhere in the rpm range. It actually felt slower than my current car, auto 2000 corolla. Corolla and lower matrix share the same motor. I guess the 5 speed doesn't make up for the extra 300 lbs of weight. I can't stand how upright and tall the seating in both cars are. Instead, I really like the low slung seating of the celica. The matrix in either XR or XRS trim sure is a cool looking ride though.

My original plan was to look for a corolla S, silver, 5 speed and order a TRD supercharger for it. 😀 Unfortunately, not a single stick corolla on the lot. Sales guy says they are extremely rare. So much for that plan. And in the end, I couldn't stand how tall and upright the seating is.

thats exactly what i was thinking-- -which is why i wondering on the price.. same price range?
But i'd definetly go with the Pro5 over the matrix.

(to lazy to look things up at the moment)

When I was at the dealership, they had a black on black camry SE hidden in the back before show prep. 5 speed, black everything, even lettering and emblems in the rear. SE also has sport suspension. Normally I don't care for the camry but I was like, damn that's a pretty nice car. Just needs a nice tint. The sales guy was like, that car is gonna sell the instant they put it out.

wtf is wrong with you a regular mustang has the same price as the protege on carsdirect

Dude go for the stang!!!

I find Mazda to be really uncomfortable...

I've driven the protege, it's an ok car, but I don't see why it's recommended so often here. Of course I'm not discouraging anyone from taking a look, but it's simply not really any better than the other cars of this class.

Matrix is pretty nice although its taller than what I thought it would be. I'd get the Corolla S because the insurance is probably less than the Matrix.

I actually like the Matrix.. aside from how ridiculously tall and stupid it is (like every other Toyota) the front end looks so mean.. I like that part at least... heh

Matrix is a very practical car. I test drove one when shopping for a car but ended up getting a Mazda Protege5. Better handling and more bang for the buck the Mazda had.

But Matrix is a very good car.
