Toyota Highlander passengers survive 100 mph street racing accident

I think most cars would be able to survive a head-on crash at those speeds (Kias and Hyundais and Suzukis excluded). It's really amazing how much impact the hood and engine of a car can take. It's the side-impact and frontal offset crashes that are really deadly.

The brutal impact sent the Mustang careening into a light pole just before 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Rockaways, killing the driver, Carlos Feria, 22, of Queens, police said.
One dead asshat.

Too bad the other fvcktard didn't die, too.

I don't really think the other Mustang driver should be charged with murder. Definitely should go to jail for something though.

Yeah... it's more understandable if they killed an innocent bystander, but a willing participant?

The guy who died was committing the same crime. Why should someone else be held responsible when he died as a result of his own willful actions?

It's still not murder. I'd say the worst they could get him for is vehicular manslaughter. Even that is a stretch. The other guy was a Darwin award waiting to happen.

That is all too uncommon for Queens. Between Rockaway and Howard Beach, there is a strip of land with road that connects the 2. It is probably a 3 mile run with the only thing on the land being an animal sancuary. That road has been a popular drag spot for the last 20+ years. It seemed like you would hear about someone dying every month racing along that road.

My insurance dropped by $200 a year when I traded in my Mazda 3 on a Highlander.

And the Highlander is almost twice as expensive of a vehicle. Insurance company said it was because of saftey.

New York is very hardcore when it comes to drag racing. Murder? Well, the guy who died was responsible for his own death but the other driver was a key factor. What if he slammed into a civic? Luckily, he hit a wall. Unfortunatly, he didn't kill himself in the process. Lock him up, he should have known better.

Those huge suv's have the steering responsivness of cruise ships and suspension made of jello to boot. Anyone who decides to operate one without taking into consideration that they won't be able to get out of the way of whatever road hazzard is ahead of them is... well... kidding themselves. I definitley believe that these guys fvcked up big time and deserve the book thrown at them, but I have a really hard time feeling sorry for this woman...

You know what a Highlander is right? It's a camry station wagon with 4WD. It's not a big lofty land barge like a suburban/expedition.

It's got a very good turning radius and about as good as "handling" as your typical family sedan.

You're an idiot. - I was going to go into it more, but there's no reason to... The preceding pretty much sums it up.

typically, um, when you buy a car, you aren't really going to ask the sales man "hey, if a car is coming at us head on at 100mph will we have good enough shocks and steering to get out of the way? oh, it won't? okay, then I don't want that car, I'll take that toyota corolla instead."

so yea, your argument/opinion is pretty damn stupid if you ask me.

And a mustang flying through the air is a "Road Hazzard" that your car could avoid????

So if someone's house burns down, they should have known to build it completely out of concrete.
