Toyota Celica vs. New Scion tC

My friend just got a souped up version of base Celica for about $21,000. It seems to be a ripoff, especially when compared to the new Scion tC Here
Why someone would buy a Celica if it is possible to get a car with a better engine, few grands cheaper?
Should I tell my buddy to dump the Celica, get the Scion and save at least a $1000.00 ?
Opinions?

Base Celica still has a 140HP engine vs 160 HP and much bigger displacment and torque of the Scion ...So...

Good luck getting a tC, the waiting list at my local Toyota is 4 to 5 months. The ones that get em will be paying above sticker is what my friend (a shady car dealer guy) is saying.

There never was a point. The celica is like Mitsubishi's eclipse - it's a girly all-show, no-go sort of car. The GTS is ok, but trounced by the competition for the same price. The base model...well it's utterly terrible. 140 horsepower...a stock corolla can keep up with that thing. Your buddy spent $21k on that? How irresponsible of him. He coulid even have bought an Acura RSX for the same price and go faster.

Am I the only person out there that find the Scions ugly? Especially the SUV-loking thingy that looks like that UGLY Honda Element?

Why would anyone spend their hard-earned $$$ on these UGLY vehicles?

The tC doesn't look anything like the xA or xB

tC's are fixed prices, no dealer markups. and plus, there will be plenty of them, unlike prius. so 4-5month wait is obsurd.

Can you provide a link backing that up? Not doubting you, just interested in finding one in the next month or two and not wanting to pay a premium.

It's true. It's a now haggle approach aimed at luring younger buyers in. Young folks that don't want all the haggle BS of dealers. You walk in, pay MSRP, add a few options if you want and that's it.

They wont raise the price of the Tc the dealer is not allowed to raise the price on it.

The tC looks amazing, and its features are also amazing.

In comparison to the celica, it beats it hands down. In fact the celica most likely wont be revived next model round, and the tC more than likely will replace it.

Scion tC has torque, the Celica has none.

However based on no real facts I think the Celica GTS would be more fun to drive.

The pricing info is correct. Scions are no haggle sales. There is no way they will let dealers bump the prices.
