I'm waiting for someone to say "Damn, only 235hp out of 4.7 liters? What a peice of trash" like they always do about 265 out of the mustang's 4.6.
but this is a truck, not a sports car. And the 4Runner's V-8 does have a very respectable 320 lb-ft of torque.
What difference does it make if it's a truck or a car? The mustang makes jsut over 300ft/lbs, btw.
The 235-hp figure is generally comparable to other vehicles in its class.
Ford Explorer
4.0L V6 - 210 hp, 254 lb-ft
4.6L V8 - 239 hp, 282 lb-ft
Chevy TrailBlazer/GMC Envoy
4.2L I6 - 275 hp, 275 lb-ft
5.3L V8 - 290 hp, 325 lb-ft
Jeep Grand Cherokee
4.0L I6 - 195 hp, 230 lb-ft
4.7L V8 - 235 hp, 294 lb-ft
4.7L V8 - 265 hp, 325 lb-ft
Dodge Durango
4.7L V8 - 235 hp, 295 lb-ft
5.9L V8 - 245 hp, 335 lb-ft
Mitsubishi Montero Sport
3.0L V6 - 165 hp, 186 lb-ft
3.5L V6 - 197 hp, 223 lb-ft
Nissan Pathfinder
3.5L V6 - 240 hp, 265 lb-ft
I don't know what to say, really.... I guess that the SUV market isn't plagued by high-tech high-revving/turbocharged/cam-enhanced/trick engines that get 100 hp per liter like the sports car market is. Therefore large-displacement SUV engines don't take the sh|t that large-displacement Mustang/Camaro/Firebird engines take.
