well, i tend to take haircuts like two or three times a year and yes, i'm a male. i usually grow my hair long every time i get my hair cut short. (last time i had haircuts was back in february.)

it doesn't bother me. my friends like the way my hair looks even it is months old.

i never had any issues with it being 'uncomfortable'

i say do it, it doesnt take very long to grow back. i didnt know i had a very light gorbachev strawberry on the back of my head till i shaved it. you never know what you might uncover 🙂
