Toy Train Tables

Anyone have suggestions as to where to get a quality toy train table for my kids? Something that is nice but doesn't cost $8,000,000.00?

Put the train on the floor. They're kids, I'm guessing they're not investing lots of time and money in accurate scale models.

If you really don't want it on the floor, get one of these.

Folding table and plywood really isnt an option... that would look a bit silly in my kids room

Reminds me of the time about four years ago when I made this elaborate setup for my son on Christmas eve, lovingly putting in creative details on this big ass piece of wood that we raised off the floor a bit. To make a long story short my son who was about 5 at the time managed to destroy the whole thing in a matter of days and I had to contend with a very big and heavy board and sliding it out and back under his bed so he could play with what was left of it. I was VERY happy to toss all that crap and don't plan on making that mistake again.

Sillier than Spongebob posters and piles of toys and stuff like this lying all over the floor?

You think taking a table designed for this goes better with the toy in the link above than a folding table does?

My son is nuts about the whole wooden train thing - We have tons of track and dozens of trains (and a much lighter wallet!). Hint: Skip the Thomas/Brio tracks and just get their trains and buildings. Buy track at Target or someplace cheap, it works just as well.

We thought about just getting a chunk of plywood, adding casters and then painting it and adding edging, but decided that it would be easier just to buy one. Costco is usually the best place to get these things - We got a whole train set plus a train table with drawers underneath for storage (key!) for < $100. They have a pretty cool set there this year which has an nice setup of elevated track in the same table we have, a good buy.

Thanks for the detailed reply Garion.
We have tons and tons (and soon more come christmas) of track/cars/buildings etc. We lucked out and 90% of our track and alot of our buildings were hand me downs from his Cousins. He of course can only have Thomas cars/engines but those are cheap if you find coupons and such and are an easy present from friends/relatives come birthday etc.

Sadly no cost-co around here. But there is a Sams and we did buy him a play-table from there a while back, but its too damn small for a train set up (damn you hind sight!)

Anyways, it seems we have lucked out. I guess one of my wife's good friends who also has a son the same age of ours was planning on building him a table for gift! We just found that out a few mins ago actually. I suggested that I could just make it to my wife and one thing led to another.

Thanks for the tips tough, I'll still poke my head in Sams Club and see what they have.

Now to quelch this Geo Track fetish he has too... ugh
