Toxic Christmas Tree Ornaments of the Past

Oldies, do you remember the lead icicles? They were fun to ball-up between your fingers. Dad always said not to eat them, so of course I had to taste. They were a little sweet. The cat loved them.

"I was saying something to a co-worker about the lead icicles on my tree, and got a blank look. “Guess I’m going to have to look that one up,” he said. “You mean… real lead?”

I had to explain that they were cut into thin strips, and hang off of the branches, one strip on a branch.

I guess I was still a kid when they stopped selling these. But we always had lead icicles on the tree, and when they were deemed unsafe, and the icicles all changed to mylar or other kinds of plastic, very few of us were looking ahead to stockpile the old kind. After about 40 years of the nonsense of mylar icicles blowing across the tree with the slightest breeze, and finding their way all the way through the cats’ digestive systems, I did an eBay search for the good old days.
I got some for $10 about 7 years ago, but they’re still out there today:"

We had garland growing up. Tinsel is nice, but tedious to use correctly. Bubble lights always fascinated me. I have some modern reproductions. Can't vouch for the authenticity. Didn't know many people who had the old ones. I still like the old painted c7 lamps. They got hot as shit, but it was hard to beat the color.

Sounds delicious. An old time favourite was lead paint chips and asbestoes sandwiches. Eat that as a kid and that's how you end up with hair on your chest.

I always liked my grandma's Christmas tree, I don't know if she still puts one up but I helped her setup once, it was the old style one where you have to screw in all the branches. She used C9 bulbs in the tree and lots of tinsel. Totally old school.

Yeah...another old fart checking in...I remember lead tinsel...followed by aluminum foil tinsel...then eventually the mylar crap nowadays.

I also remember the aluminum trees and color wheels...but they weren't really toxic.

How about the cooler than shit radium watches? I had several of them...including a couple of Timex watches with "glow in the dark" numbers.
