Towards the end of the credits of LOTR:TT, what was that stuff written in a foreign language?

Right after the "Thanks" section something was written in a foreign language.. I have no clue what it said or what language it was either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

<-- just taking a guess.

I thought about that, but it had a bunch of umlauts in it so I figured it wasnt. Don't elvish letters look all different then the letters we use here?

They were normal letters, but not in english. No sites seem to have anything listed about it, not even IMDB in the trivia section.

If it has umlauts it is probably some sort of Germanic. I didn't catch that part, I was in awe of what I just saw to pay attention to the credits. My friend and I were just sitting there saying "WOW" alot.

Someone post what it says, and I'll see if it's Germanic.

Well, if anyone goes again be sure to try to notice what it says and write it down so we can get a better look...

We can always wait until Kami returns from watching it the 512th time.

Good point. I hope he read this thread and remembers to check at the end of the credits! Someone remind him!

I would be disappointed in him if he didn't memorize every detail.

I just got word from someone running a major LOTR fan site about it..

The language is Maori, which is spoken by the native people of New Zealand. The
film production crew worked with the local tribal councils to receive permission to film in certain areas
of the country considered sacred to these indigenous people.

He goes on to say how no one has translated the message from the new movie but in the FOTR credits there was a similar message that read:

At the end of the credits of The Fellowship of the Ring, there's a line in te
reo Maori (the Maori language) that reads: "He mihi nui hoki ki nga tangata whenua o Aotearoa. Ma rangi raua ko papa tatou e manaaki, e tiaki hei nga tau e tu mai nei."

I thought you might like to know the translation (this isn't word-for-word;
it's the gist of what was written, translated by a friend who was brought up speaking Maori as his first
language): "We would like to acknowledge the people of New Zealand. May God from above care for you in the New Year."

Getting closer to the answer!!
