Keying his car would be wrong, but how about the ol banana up the tailpipe?;)

Slightly loosen the valves in his tire so it has a slow leak. ;)

just kidding, any vandalism would not be a good idea at all. call the cops, take his ass to court, and if he is still in your spot, get his car towed away to.

How do you know it's the other person's car (the one who called the towing company), and not just someone who saw an empty space?

Ok, I filed a stolen vehicle report this morning witht the police just to be on the safe side. Unfortunately, I got the "we'll look into it later" attitude from them. Thats not the worst part, I still don't know where exactly the company towed the car. I have to pick it up today or pay 60 extra per day. Not easy when you no longer have a car and have two midterms the next day. No heres the best part, they charged me 165 to hold it last night, after midnight they count that as another day so $60 more out of my pocket. It would be cheaper for me to just park the car illegally on the street than leave it there, at least thats only a $35 ticket.

part of this is strange... I have never heard of someone being able to legally tow a car that is not on private property. Parking places at an apartment complex are not the property of a tenant. The parking place belongs to the owner of the complex & only the owner may legally have cars towed.

towing from private property does not have to go through the police.

Is this different in Calif ?

That was my understanding too but apparently this incident happened after 6pm when the management leaves. I've confirmed with the company that the car in my space does indeed belong to the person who had mine towed. I suspected as much since there were plenty of other empty spots availible in the same area.

It happened to one other member here. The shady-ass towing company illegally towed his car and he won in small claims court. Unfortunatly he had several item stolem from his vehicle. Be sure to chek things over completly when you get it back.

Best of luck.

KEep us posted, this makes a fun story:) Hey, it's better than anything they got on CAble. This story has more suspense than "Texas Ranger Walker", JAG, and every other CBS shows COMBINED.

Tonec, & yeah it took him several weeks to go thru the BS & go to court & stuff.

Good luck man. My guess is that the only quick way out of this mess is if you have a friend in the police dept.

Some cities like Tampa here have sh!T laws that protect the tow companies even when they do illegal stuff.

If you do find out what company towed your car please post it. I wouldn't mind spaming them about not towing cars without the permission of the actual owner of the property.

Hmmm...this thread got bumped back up from the dead. Well I finally got my car back after three days, managed to cut my bill in half after I convinced the towing company that they had made a mistake. Found out the name of the person who had my car and it turns out that he is a regular customer so they didn't even question wether or not it was my spot. Not exactly a very responsible thing to do but not unexpected with this particular company - they didn't even bother to ask for id when I claimed my car. Since I paid cash, it would have been easy to forge a signiture and walk away with the car of my choice. Still don't know why he did though, been too busy with midterms to track him down but I did find out which car is his. Not going to do anything stupid though.

Dogmeat- the Jasco paint remover idea is good but to be truly evil toulene would be a much better choice. Chemists should know what this is, nasty stuff that dissolves plastic on contact;)

I would at least pursue to get reimbursed for what you did pay. Especially from the guy who had it towed.

That's right. I think the a-hole who had your car towed oughta foot the bill because he started the damn thing. It was also the towing company's fault. They cut the bill in half, and this guy oughta eat the rest.

Don't EVER get brake fluid on automotive paint. It ruins it.

Seriously, go after the person (legally) who ordered your car towed. First present him with the bill and find out why. Get your apt. management involved.

Time to take the Tow company and the @#$@#$ who called them to begin with to court. Sue them for time lost, transportation lost, lost work wages, inconvinience, etc.... It just takes a $25 filling fee for small claimes court. I can't believe the towing company even charged you anything after wronging you.
