Shipping was around $7 for me. I'm in the Bay Area. Still a great deal. $13 for a wooden chess board.

They had those wooden sets at my local dollar stores for....you guessed it...$1. It's the exact same set.

BTW- if you want a really cool chess set, check out local rock collector shows. A lot of them make polished rock chess sets and sell them for under $30 (including the polished stone board!). I got one on my coffee table and it always gets compliments.

Check out the United States Chess Federation's online shop if you want great deals on sets and boards. Proceeds go to the USCF, which uses the money for the various elementary and high school chess tournaments you see taking place around the country. The big plastic tournament set is only $17.00 for non-members (it's the one used in virtually every chess tournament).

You can find their chess set section here:

I have to second USchess, I recommend the double or triple weighted sets. You'll pay a bit more but you will really enjoy the set.

Richie: "We played chess".
Fonzie "You played with her chest?".

One of the old Happy Days episodes they haven't shown since the first year. I think that was the episode where Richie had a bra wrapped around a old cast iron radiator so he could figure out how to take it off. The show changed the next year...

I have always wanted one of those polished stone set, but they are so damn expensive in stores. How you do go about finding "local rock collector" shows? I didn't even know we had local rock collectors here in manhattan.

Fritzo,

Thanks for the insight. I just bought a chess board as a xmas gift to a friend. I have about 3 boards at home, but realized that a rock set actually sounds nice.

I'll keep that in mind.

you want my opinion? I guess not but ur getting it anyway.

Theres a set called the "Excalibur Set Board and Bag" or something similar for $40. You get a $15 board, $30 set, and $30 bag for $40 + 6 shipping. Its a good deal, I use one myself.
