Just wondering what kind stuff you all would recommend seeing in NYC, whether you're a local or have been there as a tourist, or what you have thought about seeing if you were ever to go there as a tourist.

I am thinking about going to visit the FDR Presidential Library just to check it out, even though I don't agree with a lot of his policies (Yes, I realize this isn't in the city). I have also thought about taking the train down to D.C. for a day or two to see some things down there.

Get lost, but make sure to carry a map to get back where you need to on time. Seriously, NYC has tons of stuff to do. Broadway is also a good choice.

Go to the WTC site. Check out the Empire State Bldg. Statue of Liberty. Broadway shows. Times Square. Central Park during the DAY!

A tip, though...don't turn your back if anyone stops you for directions, etc.

Top Of the Rock/Rockefeller Center, Battery Park/Statue Of Liberty, Chinatown, Central Park, and a Broadway show. Maybe the Empire State Building if the line isn't too long (if the line is outside the door, you're looking at a 3 hour wait!). NYC also has tons of great camera stores, art museums, and tasty restaurants. Let us know what kinds of food you're into, and we can give you more recommendations there.

Also, depending on when you're going, you might also be able to catch a Yankees game or maybe a convention at the Javits Center.

If you're into music at all I'd recommend visiting manny's music store where hendrix and clapton used to shop on 48th street between 6th and 7th ave, some really interesting stuff in there. Also no one has mentioned visiting the wax museum.
