Tough decision: iPAQ 4155 or iPAQ 4355 (w/thumbpad)

OK, I'm having a hard time deciding. Both have WiFi and Blutooth and the same internal hardware specs, but the 4355 can do Voice over IP and has a backlit thumbpad. The 4155 is $450. The 4355 is $500. Both come with a $50 Gift Certificate from Amazon.com and ship free. The 4355 is a little longer and a smidge heavier but has a MUCH larger battery (1000 mAh vs 1560):

I wanted the 4155 so bad b/c it's the same form factor as the 19xx and just as light. But the 4355 has that HUGE battery and thumbpad. It's just screaming for me (as are those two $40 rebate checks that came in today;))

you can't detach the thumbboard? that's whack

i'd go for the 4155, small is good, I loved my 1910 when I had it and used it.

I use Fitaly myself, and can actually get 40+ wpm out of it... so that beats ANY keypad out there.

Not a hard decision at all. Even though the difference is slim ($50), you are not going to be using the thumbpad, VOIP, or battery life that much.

1. How often do you input on your PPC? Most of it is referencing (reading) data.
2. VOIP requires service. I don't see why any PPC with a mic and speakers can't do VOIP? VOIP can be software powered just as well as hardware.
3. How often do you go day without charging or having access to an outlet? Even when I travelled to Hawaii on vacation, I packed my cell phone charger. I don't need 200 hour standby time and neither do you, I suspect.
4. Extra weight and size add up. Look at how much people love the iPOD even though better devices are a smidgen smaller. Same goes with Pentax Optio S.

i like the form factor of the iPAQ 4155. i recently bought an iPAQ 1945. everyone loves the slim size and weight of it.

The 4355 won't be available till January 4th. That will be plenty of time for you to play with the 4155, and then upgrade to the 4355 when it comes out. ;)

I am drooling over the 4155, but alas, I have purchased a 2210, and I intend on keeping this one for at least another year. :)

I had a 4155 for a few days.

The standard 1000mAh battery didn't last more than 4 hours with moderate WiFi/mp3 usage even with screen brightness set to 1/4 (next to off). I believe the higher capacity battery is gonna come in handy. But then of course you can always invest into a second battery. A hi-cap battery is depicted in the accessory list that came with the unit but I suspect it is thicker than the standard one.

That was not the reason why I returned the unit though. I couldn't stand the screen. The white turns into yellow as soon as I tilt the unit forward so that I'm not facing the screen right on (being able to see my own face through the screen reflection). I only have had the chance to check out one another demo unit at another place and it showed the same yellow tint. None of the 2215s or TT3s I've seen exibited the same problem. Other than that I thought the screen was quite low-res especially compared to TT3's screen.

Right now I'm stuck without a PDA. The 4155 was awesome, the yellowish tint aside. Wifi setup was simple, even LEAP support worked right out of the box.

Ack thpt.

I'm trying to decide myself which would be the better deal, between the 2215 (yes yes, I know it's technically in a separate class), the 4155, or the 4355.

I want Wifi and wonder if it'll be better to grab the 4155/4355 rather than buy the wifi CF card separately, or if I all-in-one it. 'Course, it ain't cheap.

However, I do get that automatic (at least) 10% EPP discount due to working for a large company on the HP website - that'll knock $40-$50 off the price immediately and free shipping.
Decisions, decisions. Bloody hell. Now if only I could afford it...
