I think you guys are underestimating the power of a _billion_ dollars.
Basically that would give you $20 million a YEAR to blow for the rest of your life. That's $55,800 a day.
So every single day of your whole life, you could:
Wake up.
Catch a cab to a car dealership
Buy a pretty nice car (with cash)
Drive it around town on the tank of gas that it came with
Blow it up / drive it into a lake / bury it in your backyard / give it to somebody / etc
Repeat as desired. 🙂 If you waited a week, you could buy a decent house... then blow it up on saturday and start again the next week. ROFL.

I would buy about 100 acres of land overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Vancouver. no idea how much it costs, say, 75 million?
I would build 25 mansions on this land, total cost of about 100 million.
I would relocate and get new jobs for all my close family and friends in Vancouver, and gift them each 2 or more acres of my 100 ac land, and one of the 25 mansions. All mansions, including my own, would be roughly equal. If they cannot find a job, or a good paying job, I will hire them for my real estate and development company.
I would setup a trust fund for my direct heirs, and reserve approximately 200 million in a safe, stable interest bearing account or fund.
I will start a real estate and development company. I will go into up and coming nations such as India, Hungary, etc. and invest heavily in land. Buying out entire city blocks of prime land. I will then develop hi rise office complexes and put them on rent. at the top of each office building there will be several suites, to be used as vacation homes when I want to get out of Vancouver. I will earmark 200 million for this, and will have no problems getting below prime rate loans if i need additional capital.
I will consider opening my own bank.
I would get myself a luxurious, nice, private jet. what, max 1 million?
I will donate the remaining 400 million or so to various charities and trusts that I have setup.

Hrmm, I change my mind. Instead of taking over the world via a political party, I think I'd establish private schools all over the place and use the interest from the money left over to pay the teachers and staff very, very, very well to make it free, so anybody could come and get a good education and end up supporting my agenda and not be able to even concieve of another way, and we could make a new language called newspeak and... =-P

Nice wardrobes of clothes. Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Prada, Michael Kors, etc.
Take the other 910 Million and buy property and businesses, invest it in bonds/stocks, and manage the money wisely. I'd rather have a couple of billion before I started to "blow" it. You have to spend money to make money.
