What is good ? Consdering everything being equal ? In terms of stability, good overclocking features (I know to be stable and allowings overclocking are somewhat mutually exclusive or difficult to achieve), room to move to the Palomino, 3 stage or more power, etc...and price .... hehe... asking too much. I already have and Epox and ECS. If given you to redo what you have done again..?

1. IWill KK266
2. Epox 8K7A or something
3. Gigabyte 7DXR
4. Asus A7M266

Well, I'm not terribly knowledgeable about this ... but I'll tell you what I know.

I've really only extensively researched the A7M266 you mentioned. I'm assuming then, that you are only interested in the amd 760 chipset. I know that the asus board is a good and stable board from reviews I've written the only thing is that's ... it's just that.. stable and descent. Considering it's price, there's nothing very special about it.

Personally I'm more interested in the MSI K7 Master. You might want to check it out here.

I have built systems with both the ASUS A7M266 and the K7 MASTER. Between those I would go with the K7 MASTER (both only have 2 DIMMS).

WHy?? K7 MASTER setup is much easier and overclocks very easily. No problem running 1.2Ghz 266Mhz AXIA at 1.4Ghz. Also the 1.4Ghz 266Mhz CPUs run fine on it.

The ASUS A7M266 had some problems with a 1.4Ghz CPU (actually I don't think ASUS has updated any of their boards to recognize the newer CPUS, even the ASUS proble thinks a 1.4Ghz is a 1.2ghz:confused: The Boards ran much better when in jumpered mode at 133Mhz than in jumperless mode. So that makes it tougher to overclock the thing.

My 2 cents:)

Those four boards in order of my personal preference:
1. Epox 8K7A
2. Gigabyte 7DXR
3. IWill KK266
4. Asus A7M266
The MSI K7 Master should also be a consideration. I would put it second to the Epox. The Epox is solid and stable and has lots of great features. The MSI is great as well. The ASUS costs too much for what you get.

I second that. Epox is cheap, and VERY overclockable and stable. The only downsides are the jumpers.. but hopefully they will release a jumperless bios :)

My son just got the Epox 8K7A+, and he's very happy with it. The multiplier sets via a DIP switch, fsb in the bios. Easy to overclock.

I'm keeping my eyes open, and I'm gonna watch the reviews(and comments on the forums) regarding the Abit KG7 (light, reg, raid......sounds like a beer ad).
If the comments for the KG7 are mostly positive, I'm probably going to go with it (mainly because of the "overclockability" via the bios).

In the meanwhile, I'm happy with my Epox 8KTA3.
