So, I will start with my position which is one of ignorance and only the small ammount of education I got in high school regarding the below topic. I wouldn't think to bring this up if it weren't for the laws that imprison people for daring to question it in Europe.

Was the holocaust of WW2 exagerated, or an outright propaganda myth that became easy to believe due to the photos of all the people dying due to starvation, typhus etc? Were millions of people really killed with gas tablets used to cleanse clothing of lice? (Time for me to duck)

My grandfather's entire immediate and extended family died in Auschwitz as did my my grandmother's 3 sisters and brother. My wife's grandparents were the sole survivors of their families. Personally I believe your "question" is more agenda driven than asked out of ignorance. Sorry, just not buying it.

How did this happen? How did the German people and the German army go along with Hitler's ideals. Did the populace really believe he was right, or did Hitler hide it enough that they didn'y know how bad it was getting.

I've read a lot on the history and know "how" Hitler came to power. But really, how was he able to convince an entire country and its allies to join the genocide campaign?

It just seems like the whole story was never told. I would love some links to sources besides the normal (American recount) History channel stuff that explains some of the political details.

There is PLENTY of materials on Hilter propaganda (check out You Tube).

You can also watch Auschwitz documentary on Public access/ or Netflix. Explains it all.

The answer: There is NO Limit what Propaganda can make ordinary people believe. Some of the soldiers from WW2 STILL believe a lot of it until this very day.

Heck you should know this living in America and all. US propaganda tops just about ANY country.

The answer: There is NO Limit what Propaganda can make ordinary people believe. Some of the soldiers from WW2 STILL believe a lot of it until this very day. Heck you should know this living in America and all. US propaganda tops just about ANY country.

The reason that they used gas chambers is that it was cheaper (no bullets), shooting by the troops was demoralizing to them (I wonder why!) and that once you started shooting, people tended to panic an riot, while the chamber would kill them all at once. The prisoners were told they were being deloused to keep them calm. The gas was actually hydrogen cyanide.

After the people were killed, the bodies were dragged out by Jewish prisoners, who were then required to extract any gold teeth and shave off hair to be sold as wigs. They then had to take their people to a gigantic incinerator.


I am really worried about what will happen as the last of the holocaust survivors die off. The deniers will almost certainly get louder.

To straight up answer your question, no it was not exaggerated and nor it was not a "propaganda myth". It's an event that really happened.

What amazes me both about this horrible event is that people even lived though it at all. It's the most terrifying example of what can happen with unchecked power and one of the more sad moments of humanities past.
