Touchscreen Games/Software?

My younger brother has severe epilepsy and as a result his coordination is not always good.

He has an interest in playing simple games on the PC but often stuggles to hit the correct key etc.

Do you need special hardware (e.g. monitor) to use a "touchscreen" interface or is it just the software that takes care of that function?

If it is just software - do you have any suggestions of a good place to source it?

Thanks in advance. :)

There are devices you can fit on top of your current monitor that will turn it into a touchscreen.

I'm afraid I don't know how much they are.

We have a touch screen at work for our CNC router. There is no software to a touch screen monitor, just the monitor itself. When touching the monitor, your finger acts like the mouse, so you can drag your finger across the screen, and the pointer follows along. Then you just tap the screen for a mouse click. I don't care much for it, as the tracking towards the corners of the screen is basically non-existant, and far from accurate when it does register input.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

I guess we'll just put the touchscreen idea on the back burner then ;)

It was just an idea really but as it requires hardware etc., I'm sure it will be easier just to help him out as and when he needs it :)

you oculd probably find some input devices made for kids which have really big buttons and then assign them to the appropriate actions

The minigames in Super Mario 64 DS are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

Check out the slingshot game!

His best bet is any console, especially one with a controller that he likes. Much fewer buttons to hit, and they tend to be fairly decent as far as button spacing. However, if PC gaming is what he really wants to do, perhaps look into getting him a keyboard with wide key spacing. Or perhaps something like the Belkin Nostromo which has fewer keys on it. Or, just play a game that is less demanding on 100% precise input (many first person shooters may work well for this, such as serious sam). Good luck to you in your quest!

It doesn't get any simpler (or addicting) than that awesome slingshot minigame in SM64 DS.
