Touch Pro2 is practically unusable - very frequent lockups

It's been active for two days (Sprint TP2). Day one was fine. Last night it started locking up, and it stays locked up for a considerable period of time (minutes, not seconds). I can usually go to the 'start menu' screen, but it won't let me go anywhere from there. Quite often opening the keyboard won't even change what's on the screen (it's supposed to go to landscape). Lockups galore...and I thought my Palm Centro was bad when it would freeze for 5 or 10 seconds when receiving a text message...

I'm tempted to go with a custom ROM, but if there's a chance it's a problem with the phone itself, I want to make sure I don't void any warranties or anything.

Thoughts?

edit: gwes.exe just crashed. Apparently that's what runs all the visual stuff...maybe a bad program? I haven't installed much at all - Google mobile stuff, Slacker and Youtube, I think.

Are you doing a battery pull to reset it?

If you can, take off all the additional programs, and add them back one at a time to figure out which one is causing the problem.

Or just get a replacement, sounds like a corrupted file or 2...

Nope, I'm doing a soft reset via the switch. I'll see if I can figure out how to uninstall programs...if not, I'll try a hard reset.

When I first got my TP it was the same way. Constant freezes, crashes. First thing I did was disable the TMobile crap, that helped allot. After a few weeks I found Spb Shell (doesn't void anything) and been happy ever since. Have u updated to Win. 6.5? It wasn't much of an update but it seems a little slicker..

So I saw you post a thread a week ago about 'getting' a TP2. Now you have it and are seeing problems? Is this a new phone?

+1 for Spb shell, it's the greatest thing to happen for WM phones.

Are you running WM6.1 or 6.5?

Sounds like a manila file is corrupt...hard reset should fix it. Hold down the call answer and call end keys simultaniously, and while theyre pressed push and hold the power button till you see the bootloader (the rainbow screen). Just follow the directions from there.

Yes, a custom ROM will void warranty, BUT! If you need to take it in you can just flash the Sprint ROM and you're good.

I deleted a google app and the youtube app, and it's been fine now. I think it came with 6.5 - I have weather on the home screen..not sure how else to tell?

Yep. It's been good for a day now though.

Yea, if you run custom roms, just reflash back to OEM before you RMA it or what not. Imo custom roms were amazing when I had my WM phone.

Does Sprint add it's own skin? Called TouchFlo3D or something.. That's the main thing I removed from my Tmobile version. So it looked like a regalar WinMo Home screen. TMobiles was very pretty and neat, just unstable and pointless.

I still prefer my TP2 over my Iphohe I had for 4months. The keyboard is perfect, the screen kicks ass, multitasking of course, and I can easily connect to my many work and home PC's using Remote Desktop..

Mine has been great ever since the last reset. The Slacker app is great, multitasking is nice, and now that I'm starting to get used to the interface, I'm enjoying it more and more.

Yeah, it has TouchFlo 3D.

With the Touch Pro 2, it is recommended to do a Hard Reset followed by a Soft Reset. Basically do the Hard Reset that requires you to do hold certain physical keys at start up. Once the OS has been booted, go into the program menu and do the Clear Memory. Should be good to go then.

Damn Jlee, you scared me. I have been going back and forth on getting a TP2, or just ditching SERO and grabbing a couple of EVO's

TouchFlo is an HTC thing, not a T-Mobile thing. It really helps usability of the clunky Windows Mobile OS. TouchFlo is the precursor to Sense UI, I used TouchFlo2D on my Wing PDA. Stock Windows Mobile is just bleh.

Weird you had such problems with it, I haven't read about anybody having problems with TouchFlo3D, it seems to be a very stable piece of software.

I haven't had any since - I've been using Slacker for music and just installed Palringo today for IM (Gchat, AIM, etc). It's been great..I'm very happy.

Windows Mobile 6.5 is a lot better, though. I personally disable Sense on my HD2 and just use WinMo 6.5's stock interface.
