Touch Pro 2 as multimedia device

I've never had a smart phone before, and was curious how this device works as a multimedia device?

Is it easy enough to watch videos? Decent mp3 player? Probably not as robust as an IPod Touch I'm assuming...

Thanks!

it works pretty well. I havent done too much multimedia watching except for some HD videos on youtube, which compared to an iphone looked sharper. Another plus for the TP2 is the very good speakerphone, beats the c**p out of the iphone/ipod touch.

Its not bad. It has a big, high res screen that's good for videos. Also, thanks to the tilting screen, you can set it on a desk/table and easily watch video. The standard Windows Media Player included has a pretty sub par interface, but the one that's a part of HTC Sense is actually pretty decent (although I forget if this is included...you might need a custom ROM with Sense 2.5 to get the better player). One definite plus is that it can play Zune Pass music, too.

I wouldn't put it at iPhone level here, no, but its actually pretty solid. Having used it for a month or so, and having owned quite a few Android phones, I would put it a step ahead of Android in this regard, at any rate.

Thanks for the tips guys... just a few more follow up questions 🙂

Can the phone play ripped DVD's, divx, avi's, etc?? Does the video need to be in a specific format?

Assuming you have a data connection, can you stream Zune Pass music, or just play the saved mp3's stored on the phone? I had no idea that service was available on windows mobile phone, thought it was just zune players...

Thanks!

The TP2, since it's WM, is awesome for playing any (fine, most) formats. Just go install TCPMP (free and older) or Coreplayer (not free) and it would be good to go to most video formats.

The inability to play most formats is a big weakness, in my opinion, for Android and iPhone. I don't know if they have apps that will handle other formats now. I think Android might.

I don't know about zune pass, as I don't have it. It can play mp3s from the phone. I can also play mp3s or videos from my file server. (You need to use file explorer to get onto the file server.)

I don't think it plays divx, but should handle most other standard formats...to be honest I don't know for sure, might want to check the internet for that one. You can't stream Zune Pass music unfortunately, just play stuff you've already downloaded onto your computer (need a Kin or WinPhone7 to do live syncing). They definitely don't advertise it well. Zune software won't recognize it as a device...you have to sync it using Windows Media Player.
