teeth stained from coffee and tea... don't want some strips that whiten over 6-week period. don't want a new tube of toothpaste with "whitening power!"....

can't you just sloosh some household bleach (diluted of course) in your mouth? As long as you thoroughly rinse, I don't see how this would be bad. I could be mistaken. Anyone know for a fact why or why not this works?

If you're serious about whitening - go see your dentist. Mine had a program where I whitened mine to superwhite in less than a week - most whitening programs run 200-300 bucks, and it's worth every penny IMHO.

as long as you don't ingest it, you should be fine. Just breath thru your nose.

Do not put bleach in your mouth. Go to the dentist. They can whiten your teeth in one visit, using some type of gel on your teeth and a laser blue light doohicky to activate it.

Don't do the Rembrant system. That was the most uncomfortable and painful hour of my flippin' life.

Although, my teeth are whiter now.

I dimly recall my old bio teacher telling us stories of how he used to gargle hydrogen peroxide every morning to keep his teeth whiter. I wouldn't recommend gargling bleach.

Is that where they have you use "BLEACH" in syringes? and you do it in little mouthguard style? I had that ... worked REALLY well, but it HURT in the morning. (had to keep it on for 1-4 hours, so sleeping with it on was recommended).

"bleach" in a tooth-whitening system is peroxide, not hypochlorite.
Do NOT rinse with household bleach.

puhleese don't instigate that.

OP, you need the coffee/tea stain professionally cleaned off your teeth before anything is going to get through and "whiten" them.

make an appt for a cleaning at your dental office.

BOSTON (Reuters) - A neighborhood was shaken up early Monday when a man in his late 20s, who went by the name mdchesne on the Anandtech forums, a popular high-tech web site, died earlier today, either by suicide or tragic accident. Apparently driven by low self-esteem, mdchesne consumed three tablespoons of Clorox bleach and was "swooshing" it around in his mouth when his head exploded. Experts say he either mixed some other reactant or the bleach was reacting to some previously ingested material. Nearby pedestrians heard a loud explosion at 12:30 PM Monday and observed smoke coming from the open windows. They called 911, but by the time authorities arrived onto the scene, it was too late.

Mayor Thomas Menino, devastated at the loss of life, said he was prepared to accept some loss, but nothing like this. "I don't understand why people can't just be happy enough with brushing. What are our dentists telling the people these days?"

Plans are currently underway to educate the public about safer teeth whitening techniques under the slogan "Fight for a Whiter Bite."

Local advocates from the Anandtech forums are hesitant to jump on the bandwagon, although they'll always remember mdchesne. Some felt bad about urging him on to such action. Others just think it's funny that he actually went through with it. There is still a small sect of the population demanding "pics" of the whitened teeth.

The plan, detailed by an anonymous source at a news conference, was to be put to a meeting of trade ministers in Wall Street later on Monday. His parents are the newly elected chairmen of the movement. "[mdchesne] always wanted to have white teeth. I think this is what he would want us to do."

Your dentist will make custom trays and give you a tube of gel to use, and in-office treatments. The stuff they use in the office is strong enough to bleach your gums.
The only downside is that you start to notice how yellow everyone else's teeth look :D

This Dentist says no.
Congratulations for being the reason we have labels like "Do Not Eat" on lighters and such.

Q. HOW CAN I MAKE MY TEETH WHITER?

A. There are several methods to make teeth whiter. We can "whiten" them or utilize porcelain veneers. The best whitening technique is the dentist prescribed whitening systems; they change the color of teeth. DO NOT attempt to use household bleach. Veneers are an option for more difficult cases. There are many other ways to improve the appearance of your smile if you are interested in a cosmetic consultation to assess your cosmetic needs please let us know.
