Hello. I'm a fat geek and I want to lose some weight and balance out my oversized right arm. (I play tennis, not... you know. well, nevermind). I'm thinking of getting the TOTAL GYM, but not the one on TV cuz it's like friggin 600 bucks or something. There is like some basic model I think for 250 in sporting goods stores. I was wondering if anyone bought it and knows where I can get it for cheaper than that. Also, if it works well for them. w3rd.

From what I've heard, to lose weight you should change your diet and do light exercise.

After that, do heavier stuff to build up muscle.

nah man, I'm not down with the changing diet part. i don't eat that much, it's just that i just sit on my chair and surf the internet all day. doing some exercise will push me over the ledge to being fitter. i have a treadmill at home and i've started using it again, and i lost about 5 lbs so far. i just want a quick muscle building (not really bulking up) thingy to supplement my aerobic shiz. and from what i hear total gym allows you to do both at the same time.

so anyway, do i really have to pay 250 bones for it, or are there any special dealers out there that sell it for less? w3rd.

Total Gym or Bowflex.

I know a dude that lost 100 pounds on Total Gym but he put his heart into it.
I don't think they cost that much lol. On TV commercials they advertise it for like 5 payments of $49.98 or something. I don't know.

The total gyms effectiveness is directly related to how much the user weighs.

I use my sisters all the time and it is very effective because i weigh 220lbs.
My friend tries it out at times but isnt nearly as useful for him since he weighs 80 pounds less.

At the hardest setting it claims that you are feeling 45% of your body wieght in resistance.
To sum up, if you're a fat ass great....if you're a lightweight............not so much.

I thought about getting one... I dunno. I guess it helps that I have 24-hour access to a gym in my dorm.

Still looks pretty cool.

If you want to lose weight, go walk, jog, run, swim, etc. Its all about getting your heart rate up.

I like the tony little exerciser. I didn't buy it yet, but you get some nice stretching done while exercising. It feels good.

Yea so. The exerciser is like cross country skiing, it's concept is right on. I've tested it in the store and I think it would be my aerobic exerciser of choice.
No impact is important if you're a fatass. You can't jog when you're too heavy you risk banging up you knees but good.

Haha, that sounds familiar. I used to live at an all guys dorm, with the most pathetic attic gym ever. Everything was rusted and dirty. A bench press, a pull-up bar, and a punching bag, that's it. Worked out there secretly for a bit, then later with a way stronger friend. Once I managed to get the 45's on the side, I was ready to go to a nicer gym!

Although honestly... after having a 24 hour fitness membership this summer, I'd have to say that you have nothing to be embarrassed about. Tons of people there were out of shape. Besides, if you work out with any regularity, you will quickly gain strength.
