Its a hot deal if you bought a toshiba laptop and all you need is to scan the bottom as proof to claim the $400+

I wish I still had one left that I didn't sell...
My Bad, didn't read all the fine print (expired 5 months ago, or did it?). trythislink

ARGGHGHHHHHHHHHHHH

I really could have used this hot deal about 6 months ago... you know, before it expired... Here I was getting all excited, apparently my $35 laptop from 1985 was worth a $100 coupon...

my company has 1000 of them...that ought to be enough cash for us to declare a profit this next quarter...Maybe I'll buy some of our stock with the inside knowledge :)

actually one of my customers, who bought some Toshiba laptops from me, told me that Toshiba has extended the claim period until 29 January 2001.

UGH! You're killin me! 29 Jan??? Sheit. I shoulda cashed out on that laptop before I eGayed it. My mom has another old one sitting at home, 486/SLC33 that I guess I can get some money for.

Any link to the extended offer? The claim form still says 12 Jun 00.

The entire lawsuit was bogus. The chances of the bug occuring were next to nil, and in fact had never occurred. Oh well. Free money for some of ya'll. I'm jealous ;)

Just to let you know that the settlement is still on. I received the claim form from the administrator and sent it off a few weeks ago. I think the new deadline is January.

This settlement rocked! I got a check for $400 AND a $225 "Toshiba Card". I used the $225 card to buy 2 15" monitors and ended up getting them both for $4.00 out of pocket!

I have a refurb Tecra 730XCDT. Anyone know if this qualifies. The legal mumbo jumbo is confusing.

Is this still going on even though the deadline was June 2000? If it is then great! I fit the categories and everything. If not I am totally bummed!!!

What are the requirements to qualify for this settlement? Can someone provide a working link to the settlement details, or explain them to me? Thx

heres the scoop--in short you had to have bought your laptop in 1998 or later.
heres a copy of the details-

All Settlement Class Members who Own2 a Toshiba Laptop Computer that was purchased new on
or after March 5, 1998, shall be entitled to the "Cash Remedy," which is cash in an amount that is
calculated with respect to each particular Toshiba Laptop Computer Unit as set forth on the table
labeled as Exhibit A on page 8 of this Notice and incorporated herein by reference. The Cash
Remedy recoveries will vary in a range up to $443.21. You can determine the date that your Toshiba
Laptop Computer was manufactured by looking at the serial number (located on the bottom of your
Toshiba Laptop Computer). Toshiba Laptop Computers manufactured in 1998 and 1999 start with
the identifier of the month (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, X, Y, Z) as the first digit, and then contain the last
number of the year (8 for 1998, and 9 for 1999) as the second digit. You can establish that your
Toshiba Laptop Computer was purchased on or after March 5, 1998, either by submitting proof of
purchase that shows this, or if the first two digits in your serial number are: 28, 38, 48, 58, 68, 78,
88, 98, X8, Y8, Z8, 19, 29, 39, 49, 59, 69, 79, 89, 99, X9, Y9, or Z9.

Does anyone have any concrete data that this deadline has been extended?? I see no mention of that on either of the websites.

there is no actual extension, but they are still required to accept claims and they are still accepting them. Hurry though.

It says on the Freecard Toshiba card that it can be used a Circuit City, Compusa, and Bestbuy B&M stores. Has anyone tried this? Does it go through like any other credit card?

How do they differentiate Toshiba products from others?

btw: For anyone who is wondering, I submitted my laptop for this and I got a check for $376 + a $225 Toshiba freecard (debit card basically).

I did this with our old 486x33 sattelite class toshiba laptop and qualified for a 100 dollar freecard or something like that. The basica gist of the deal is that Toshiba pays something like half a billion in total settlement, but they claim they pay like 3 billion or something due to the amount of potential class members. The lawyers get their percentage fee as a fraction of the total potential class payment (this way the lawyers get far more than 20% of what Toshiba ends up paying). The two people who brought the suit get 25 grand a piece. And we get a toshiba card that is good for products that are already marked up well above their actual value :)

The basic idea being that Toshiba looks like they are paying several billion dollars, and writes that amount off as losses (saving themselves much in taxes/stock losses), and a few other people get cash too. Not to mention that the big problem that was the basis for the suit is not even replicable in a laboratory setting :)

I'm interested in the BestBuy/CompUSA thing though - has anyone tried buying non-toshiba stuff?
