Maetryx here,

This seems like a hot deal to me. Please post a better one if I'm behind the times.

TOSHIBA SD-1612 DVD-ROM white box at Future Technology Inc. for $69.00 plus UPS shipping and handling. FTI has a 4.2 on Reseller Ratings. As far as I can tell this drive never comes with software, so there shouldn't be any difference between this "white box" version and a "retail version". Again, I welcome any corrections. Make sure you don't compare this to the similar SD-M1502 (also a 16X DVD-ROM drive) which doesn't read DVD-RAM discs.

Significantly, clonecd recommends Toshiba DVD drives for reading CD's you wish to clone (reads subchannel data).

refurbed at newegg lists as $35, but of course it's out-of-stock.

on pricewatch it starts at $61 (plus steep shipping).

I have this drive, if you want it make sure you dont want to rip any dvds any faster than 2x because toshiba capped that shizeiot at 2x.
