I wish they didn't charge tax in Ohio. The shipping is not bad, only 7.86 for ground, but tax is $47. Staples has this notebook for $1000, so this is a pretty good deal. Anyone else think this might go to $599 in the near future??

Alternatively, NewEgg has an $815 Acer with pretty similar specs. The main differences appear to be a (-) regular 15" XGA screen, (-) 40GB HD, and a (+) P-M 710 (1.4GHz, 2MB). Looks pretty nice, too.

Scored one for my niece! Thx OP! I have read the reviews. Not much more than a basic machine. Don't think about gaming more serious than solitare. Upgrading to a 7200 RPM drive is easy and then you can sell your 4200 on ebay, although you won't get much. Figure $100 outlay for this. I did this on my Acer and it didn't help much. I added another 512 ram for a total of 768 and that helped a little more. I paid $1300 for my Acer and it has ATI graphics. For half the price this machine is a great value.
