He's a new member, give him a break. And do you have to be so descriptive about Celerons? We know that you hate them but what about what he needs?! :disgust:

And does it matter if it's an obsolete model? It doesn't mean support for it will go away, it just means you can buy it cheaper :)

But don't worry about the obsoletence of a computer, it's obsolete the moment you open the box ;)

The only time I'd consider a Celeron is if it's dirt cheap, and that laptop is dirt cheap. I'd spring for it if you won't be using it for demanding applications.

You haven't said what that laptop will be used for so it's a little hard to tell you if that is a good machine for you. Here's what I can tell you so far:

You posted this in the wrong forum. These guys have a kneejerk reaction to a Celeron processor over here, and partly because they don't know a mobile Celeron has 256k cache and not the 128 they are used to seeing in a desktop. That specific chip is comparable to a P4 @ approx 2GHZ, I'd say a tad higher. If you asked them if the laptop was worth the money given the P4 they'd prob say yes.

Secondly that RAM will need an upgrade to at least 512. It doesn't matter if it is just office apps you will be using 256MB is low, but they are easy to upgrade.

Post back with what your intended use is and I'll let you know if your machine can do that comfortably.

(Post most of your "I need a laptop" and related ?'s in the SFF, notebooks.... forum)

I bought the laptop a few hours ago. I though they would be sold out since there were 150 people waiting in line infront of me at 5:20 am outside BB. I somehow got the laptop (2.4 celeron, 256+256 installed at store, 30 gig, 14") and a Lite-On DVD+-RW 411S. The total was $1172 after tax. I still need to get $500 in MIR.

The laptop ran smootly but I think the 14" is a little small. I also want to get a wireless ethernet card. What type and brand should I get? USB, PCMCIA, or mini PCI?

I just bought that laptop at BB's BF sale too. Upgraded to 512MB, will eventually go 1GB. I absolutely love it. It is going to be perfect for taking to school and studying with. Almost all of my syallbi and materials are now on CD/online.

Couple of questions - anyone know what size torx screwdriver will open the cover of the Mini PCI slot?

Can this be upgraded to WiFi with a Mini PCI card? Documentation says no way - but are the antennas there? Thanks.

Oh, are there any really active forums that are just for Toshiba users? I know Dell's forums are VERY active and there are even forums for VPR Matrix (got one of those lappys too), there has to be for Toshiba. Thanks!
