Dunno. I never get access to BB ads until Sunday. I'll be looking out for it.

Is the Sempron in that desktop the Socket 754 or 939 flavor? I know there are 939 Semprons out there from the big OEM's.

i think its the 939, because the two boards hp is using with the integrated geforce 6150 le are asus A8N-LA and A8M2N-LA? not sure just yet, but am searching for additional info
A8M2N-LA uses PC2-4200 memory

Been hearing about lots of LCD probs with the low-end Toshibas on other boards. And the battery life sucks bigtime. It's cheap for a reason, so buyer beware.

Sorry for the crap allisolm, this is just a friendly warning.

I've had a low-end Toshiba for 4 or 5 years with absolutely no performance problems or lcd problems. The top hinges of the case cracked so I just replaced it with a low-end Dell (since that was the best deal at the time.) Had this one been available, I would not have hesitated to purchase it since the other one is still working fine. Don't run it off the battery much, so that is not an issue for me. Whatever works for you and is in your budget.

Good luck with the rebates, be extra careful, all the stuff you should do with rebates but sometimes forget.

I'm still waiting on $80 rebates from an lcd monitor 2+ months ago.

Ditto. They owe me $200.

Also no PCI-E slot in the a1400e PC, so it is strictly a Grandma machine. Picture grandma squinting at that 15" LCD, while searching for her missing rebates.

Edit: the price on the HP Pavilion Media Center a1430n looks good if you get the rebate. Wait till it goes on sale at Staples. E@syRebates FTW!

15" LCDs are not too bad, especially if the deal is really good. Just keep in mind that a 15" LCD has pretty much the same viewable area as many 17" CRTs. Most of the 17" CRTs I've used over the years had an actual size of 15.5" diagnonal. You will be limited to 1024 resolution, which isn't great, but totally useable. So my point is don't dismiss this deal because the LCD is "only" 15".

"Also no PCI-E slot in the a1400e PC, so it is strictly a Grandma machine."

the asus A8N-LA has a pci-e slot per the specs on hp's website.
guess we will know for sure in a few weeks

can change font/icon sizes within windows...
right-click on the desktop and its one of the options in appearances/themes or something like that. hope this helps.

i don't know about the laptop, but the desktop was a complete bust. they were trying to charge $99 for "over seas shippping & handling"... that's HALF the cost of the system itself! complete waste of time 🙁

yeah shipping was $99.99 so total price was 300.00 after rebate, + tax, so that kinda killed the deal, also the add was wrong it said $25.00 for a upgrade to a cd-rw/dvd-rw, and it is not a DVD-rw, the dvd-rw upgrade is like $50.00, this is a OK deal at best, not a rip off, but definately not a crazy deal either, at $200.00 + tax i might have got one, but not $300.00 + tax.
