Hi all. This is the error message I keep getting on my laptop. I've played with the BIOS settings and this hasn't changed anything.

I am trying to install Windows onto the hard drive but keep getting that error message.

Hdd has been taken out and put into a pc and formatted.
I've disabled to Built In LAN feature and that in the bios and that Ethernet error message disappears but not the boot disk.

And every time I try boot from CD ROM,
Whentrying to install XP, the computer freezes on a black screen after loading the bios
When trying to install Vista, I get an error message on a black screen after loading the bios
When trying to install Home, I get an error message on a black screen after loading the bios.

Anyone got any ideas on what the problem could be and how to fix it? I just want to get a fresh installation of Windows and to be up and running. =)

Im thinking its a hdd issue. But when I plugged it into my mates desktop pc. computer management picked up the hdd and allowed me to even format it. so i duno ?

If you take the drive out of the laptop, try bootign to the CD again. If it loads the CD you know it was the hard drive or controller. If it still doesn't load, it could be the IDE/SATA controller

Here's an idea, on a working machine, download a linux iso. Look online how to load it to a USB flash drive and see if you can boot to the flash drive.

But if you're getting an error right after loading he BIOS that is systemic of a motherboard or memory issue.

In relation to Xandhurst's post. He's asked me to have a look at it:

Well, I went out and got a new hdd drive for him. Ive put it into the laptop and booted up. Got the WindowsXP cd in and told laptop to boot from CD. It says that its scanning system hardware then screen goes blank and cd rom stops spinning. Laptop still on on the screen is like a light shade of black instead of standard black when turned off... Any clues?
