My brother has had his Samsung DLP for close to 2 years and is still on his first bulb. I'm on my first but have only had my Samsung for 6 months.

The original lamp blew in mine about 2.5 months after I bought it but the replacement has been fine and we use this set a lot.

Just from anecdotal evidence from friends and forums like this, I'd be scared to buy a DLP as they seem to need constant maintenance to keep a decent picture.
While I'm sure other technologies like LCD and Plasma have their fair share of problems, I have never had any problems with the many LCD screens that I've used at home and work and don't know anyone personally who has. I'm sure that there are a fair number of posts on avforums about people having problems...they just don't stick out like the posts I see on rear projection technologies.

Hmm bought my Toshiba DLP in July of 05 and outside of an issue where the lamp wouldnt turn on and required the power be pulled for 30 seconds. I havent had a problem with my set "yet".
Crossing fingers
Is it warm in the room it sits? Ours is downstairs and even in the middle of summer it doesnt get much more than 75 degrees down there.

Once I get that 94LBs up on my entertainment center, I got 27" of loving that'll last forever. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so I don't need more.
I dunno, for me the expected life of a TV is 10-20 years, not 2-3... My parents replaced the TV they got in '92 just this Christmas with a Bravia XBR. They expect it to last as long as the last TV did. From 1982, when I was born, to now, my parents have had only 3 different TV's in the living room. The first lasted 10 years, the second lasted just under 15. It just doesn't make sense to me to replace a TV every 2-3 years.Originally posted by: RagingBITCH
I don't regret buying my DLP whatsoever. The price difference b/t a 46" LCD/plasma vs a DLP was a no brainer. In 2-3 years when my lamp finally needs replacing, I'll bite the costs or just get a bigger, better, and cheaper tv. Big whoop.
You can't let one product/person's experience with it cause you to blanket statement the whole DLP spectrum in general. That's just retarded.
