My lamp just blew, AGAIN! Thats 3 times now since i got the set in thanksgiving of '05. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE company. For $1500, i expected more, but this is a LOAD OF CRAP.

I'm done with DLP. 3 TIMES IN A YEAR?!?

Are you using a surge protector?

My brother has had his Samsung DLP for close to 2 years and is still on his first bulb. I'm on my first but have only had my Samsung for 6 months.

Yep, pretty decent one to boot. 🙁

fyi... toshibas i think need a light engine or new bulb revision replacement... i was looking at a HM195 1080p last year and found out something like that.

The original lamp blew in mine about 2.5 months after I bought it but the replacement has been fine and we use this set a lot. Supposedly there was a lot of sets sold towards the end of 2005-March 2006 that had faulty lamps. Toshiba had a link you could check to see if yours was one of these and they would replace the lamp free when it blew out. It took them 3 days to get one to me when mine blew out last April.

Got mine on Thanksgiving 05, first blew in Feb 06, second blew in July 06, now this one blows 6 months later in January 07.

I'm done with this crap.

Just from anecdotal evidence from friends and forums like this, I'd be scared to buy a DLP as they seem to need constant maintenance to keep a decent picture.

While I'm sure other technologies like LCD and Plasma have their fair share of problems, I have never had any problems with the many LCD screens that I've used at home and work and don't know anyone personally who has. I'm sure that there are a fair number of posts on avforums about people having problems...they just don't stick out like the posts I see on rear projection technologies.

Hmm bought my Toshiba DLP in July of 05 and outside of an issue where the lamp wouldnt turn on and required the power be pulled for 30 seconds. I havent had a problem with my set "yet".

Crossing fingers

Is it warm in the room it sits? Ours is downstairs and even in the middle of summer it doesnt get much more than 75 degrees down there.

I don't regret buying my DLP whatsoever. The price difference b/t a 46" LCD/plasma vs a DLP was a no brainer. In 2-3 years when my lamp finally needs replacing, I'll bite the costs or just get a bigger, better, and cheaper tv. Big whoop.

You can't let one product/person's experience with it cause you to blanket statement the whole DLP spectrum in general. That's just retarded.

Well, we live in FL, so its always kind warm.

You can tell when it blows, just a loud BANG, scares the CRAP outta ya... You can usually tell right before it blows, picture gets dim for a few minutes, then BANG 🙁

July 05 is before the faulty lamps appeared from all I read so you are probably safe. Mine went at around 130 hours IIRC. I would guess that the replacement has +/- 1200 hours on it by now. Oddly enough I have had that same problem you described once myself.

*hugs his Samsung CRT HDTV*
Once I get that 94LBs up on my entertainment center, I got 27" of loving that'll last forever. I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so I don't need more.

Earthquake. KABOOM.

I like my Samsung DLP. It even makes a nifty little blewp-de-la-blewp noise when you turn it off or on. Keeps simpled minded little ol' me amused as I sit there trying to mimic the noise sometimes 😛. Ohh and the TV actually works really well too. I think the only gripe I'd make is that it doesn't center a PC's signal very well, but it provides settings to adjust the position of the computer input so you don't have to do it via graphic drivers.

I dunno, for me the expected life of a TV is 10-20 years, not 2-3... My parents replaced the TV they got in '92 just this Christmas with a Bravia XBR. They expect it to last as long as the last TV did. From 1982, when I was born, to now, my parents have had only 3 different TV's in the living room. The first lasted 10 years, the second lasted just under 15. It just doesn't make sense to me to replace a TV every 2-3 years.

TV falls off, causes Earthquake. KABOOM.
Fixed.

But it's nothing like this beast.

How are your viewing habits.

A lot of people suffer from premature light failure by turning on and off the television too much & too soon.

Once you turn off your TV you should allow the lamp to cool before turning it back on again, I've been told ~ 15 minutes should be good.
