I think this was mentioned within a thread recently but Circuit City has the Docsis standard Toshiba Cable Modem in this weeks add listed as $299 with instant $50 rebate and another $100 mail in rebate.

Check with your broadband provider but should be compatible with most since it meets the DOCSIS standard.

These go like hotcakes(according to salesperson) so run if you need one.
Better than paying $10 a month to lease.

Rebuilder,
I called Circuit City and they have the cable modem in stock, however the saleman said he had no information about the $100 mail-in rebate. Do you have any more information regarding the rebate?

Thanks!

They make a standard PCX1100 and also a combo(w/USB) PCX1100U. My guess is the older one has the rebate, but don't quote me. Only Toshiba $100 rebate I could find was for a digital camera. The modem was listed @ $249 on the Toshiba site.

What, where, who?

Who's the rebate from? Is it mail in directly to toshiba? If so then you can find the modem for <$150 after the rebate. Please post a link to the rebate or do us all a favor and scan it in. It would be greatly appreciated.

If it's from CC just say so. I'll go and pick one up immediately.

The unit I bought this afternoon is not usb.

The $100 rebate is mentioned in the circuit city ad with the roadrunner service so it may only be regional depending on your local cable modem provider.

It might be worth a shot if your local store carries this item (if they know nothing about a rebate) to go ahead and ring it up to see if the rebate forms print out. If not just tell them you were expecting a rebate and return item immediately.

The rebate prints out two $50 rebates. One says: $50 CC "Cable Modem Rebate for Roadrunner Subscribers"(program 08512) and the second one says "AT&T Broadband Cable MDM Rebate for Roadrunner Subscr" (program 08509)

Instructions for Rebate Approval: (same for both)
A legible copy of the Circuit City sales receipt must accompany your rebate form. You must include a copy of the UPC codes from the products packaging excluding delivered items.
The above listed items must have been purchased during the listed sales dates. Forms postmarked later than 01/14/01 are ineligible. ......Rebate is valid for customer name on sales receipt only.........

Mail To:
Circuit City Rebate
Program #8509, Dept. 08509
P.O. Box 90350
Richmond, VA 23230-9350

2nd Mail To:
same except Program #8512, Dept 08512

Other info:
There was also a .01 cent activation kit(AT&T Roadrunner) that was part of the purchase.

It's probably safe to say that if your local CC ad does not have anything about the roadrunner cable modem service then the deal probably doesn't fit in your area.

I was already an AT&T cable modem subscriber but I don't know if the deal works for other providers (I'm not sure if the rebate folks at circuit city check to see if you are a roadrunner subscriber)

Hope this info helps.

edit- It looks like the two $50 rebates are identical except for program numbers. Hopefully this won't be like the 2 TIVO $100 rebates that printed at same time. However, this time the ad explicitly states $100 mail in rebate.

Toshiba makes some of the best cable modems, my friend had one with his Media One service (now AT&T?) so yes it should work with AT&T service. When he was having problems with his service the cable guy changed the modem to a Best Data just to be sure, but I think it was a software problem he fixed. Now there are no problems, I prefer the Best Data just because of the extra LED that let's me know a little more if I'm not getting data. Saw the Best Data on sale at CompUSA for $249, but if you can get the Toshiba ro $150, then go for that one.

It's a fairly large ad in the middle of the circular near the bottom. You would see it if you had it. The ad is about AT&T Roadrunner. It might still be worth a call first to see if they have the modem then ring it up to see if the rebate spits out.

These kits are very regional. It is a joint venture between CC and your Local Broadband Provider (they want to get out of the cable modem buisness) and as long as there system supports docsis the open standard now. We should start to see alot of the mail in rebate promos.

Yes! I should qualify now that Mediaone has switched over to AT&T/Roadrunner here in the Boston area.

I'll go down tommorow and see if I can pick it up. Right now I'm using the older PCX1000 so I should have no problems.

Maybe you should say "For Roadrunner subscribers" in the title. I don't even know who they are here in WA.

Thanks Rosebud, I hate worse than anything when folks post topics with minimal info which lead folks down the wrong trail.

However, this deal may work for others also since it's a Docsis modem but it's a walk on the wild side not knowing if the CC rebate folks will actually check to see if your'e an AT&T/Roadrunner subscriber.

Thanks again for helping me lower my monthly cable bill.

I picked up a modem today. My local CC didn't have any access kits and they were unable to print out the rebates (only took them 2hrs to figure it out) so I had to drive 30miles to pick one up. Needless to say I won't go back to CC for a while. :)

At any rate I had a PCX1000 before and I was hoping the 1100 had a browser-accessable security page, but it doesn't. I guess for $150 it's hard to complain. At least the 1100 supports much faster rates than the 1000.
