Toshiba A135 problem

I have a friend's Toshiba A135-S4527. The motherboard has been replaced. I think it may be time for another replacement. Let me describe the problem.

She left it with me with the battery out. On purpose. I put the battery in and it fired up. Then I properly turned it off. Now it won't restart. The power LED comes on, yes, but the HDD LED does not. It also stays on for only a few seconds before cutting off. We know from experience that leaving the battery out and charger unplugged for some time will allow it to restart when either is re-inserted.

What gives?

A friend of mine had a slightly older Toshiba in that same chassis style. Did the same thing. Time for a new laptop. Trash/recycle/ or part that one out on ebay.

Well, this one was built in 2007, so it isn't all that terribly old. I have it running Windows 7 quite well.

I've replaced the motherboard on this one and a duplicate plus a few other laptops. It isn't all that difficult. I'm just wondering if that is the case here.

The laptop is otherwise in really good shape.
