Toshiba 300MHz superslim laptop $580 ($555?)

Posted before, but the laptop was from another place, and had less ram for about the same price.

Ripped from BensBargains, and possibly from KwadGuy in the older thread.

Portege 3020CT. MasterCard users, use coupon code MC Exclusives for 10% off, bringing the price to $522. This is the 96MB version, with 6.4 gigs. I'd consider it as a great digital camera wallet, or a light task travel machine. Does not come with a CDROM or OS installed.

Get the laptop @ CompGeeks.

So my question is, anyone know of a better "SLIM" laptop deal? And does anyone know of a good price/place to grab an external cd-rom drive, or more importantly a wireless ethernet card for this sucker?

Oh and by the way, I just checked, price dropped to $555, so it's $499.5 with the 10% off.

I just checked the site on two different machines running different browsers. Have you tried refreshing the page? I get the $555 price. However, I just ordered, and at the last page/confirmation page, I didn't see any discount when using the mastercard code. I hope it's on the email confirmation, but I won't be able to check until later tonight after work.

So anyway, where can I find a wireless lan card and a normal lan card, or a combo card for this sucker?

Had a 3015 till the screen died & Radio Shack lost it for 2 months (and paid me full retail price to replace it after it was 1.5 years old) the gee-whiz factor is pretty high, but no onboard cd-rom (or floppy), small screen, the chicklet mouse in the middle of the keyboard, the heat build up, and auto slow down @ a certain temp made it a limited solution @ best. I used it to surf @ work...

Yeah it won't be my main machine, checm my existing rig for that sucker, this laptop will mainly be for wireless surfing while I'm on campus. In addition the laptop at work sucks, so this way, I'll get to use something more decent. 4 weeks of work (2 nights a week) and I'll be able to pay for this sucker. I heard the keyboard is really tight... hope I get used to it quick because I use an ergonomic keyboard for my main rig.

DcDomain:

Judging by the timestamp, that BensBargains
post is most likely ripped from my addendum
to the long thread on this laptop that already appeared
in Anandtech. See this thread.

Proving once again that there are only three pieces of information
in the world, and 2 billion people all trying to take credit
for them 😀

Anyone know anything about the MCEXCLUSIVES coupon code and CompGeeks? I don't think I got it to work because it doesn't show up on my confirmation page or my email confirmation. I used a MC too...

Wrong formatting, it's "MC Exclusives"

Doc here is a 56kmodem/ethernet pcmcia card with NO dongle with a $20 rebate from the company.
If you go to the rebate site it'll show you where to buy it (Fry's Buy.com or compusa) I bought it today at Fry's for $99 -20 rebate=$79
Not bad at all, vey nice looking too
link to rebate

Mc exclusives is advertised on mastercard.com for compgeeks, "non-special" items. The amount is credited to your mastercard the same day as the charge posts 🙂

Sweet, thanks Mll take a look at that card.

Emulex thanks for the info, so I guess the charge should reflect the 10% off and not the email/page confirmation right? I emailed them last night, and they never got back to me. I guess they are closed for St. Patty's day... I'll see what's up on Monday.

dcdomain,
my orders at the Geeks have always shown the
MC Exclusives discount in the confirmation page,
though sometimes has not applied to certain sale items.
Best Of Luck

Well the laptop isn't a sale/special item so the discount should apply. What happened was that I placed "MCEXCLUSIVES" into the discount field instead of "MC Exclusives" so the space between it and the casing might have made the code invalid. I hope CompGeeks will correct this little predicament I got myself into for me. If not, I guess I'll cancel the order and reorder. Thanks for the information.

is it any good ?
This card is simply beautiful I am usingitright now ,took 2minutes to install bothmodem and dsl work *flawlessly**
Best 79 Bucks I ever spent 🙂

Hey, getting ripped off on these boards pretty much goes
with the territory. You can't get too steamed about that.
But it irks me that this info, probably ripped from my note
now earns the ripper, BensBargains, a credit link in the first
post...I mean, if they're gonna rip, let 'em rip, but let's
not inflate their hit rate while we're at it...

Kwad

Sorry Kwad, I guess the credit goes to you, but it's not necessary to make a big deal out of it. Who cares if it increases BensBargains hit rate or not, I'm sure many of the deals posted here were ripped from Bens or other places like Techbargains, GotApex, FatWallet and the like. What does it really matter to you that his hit rate increases or not? He, like the fellow members of this forum and others are doing everyone a favor by posting deals. Sure he might make some money off of it, but he went through the trouble of creating the site and what not. Bravo to him...

Anyway, I changed the original message to reflect that the credit should belong to you.
