From the time I close the tray it takes 12-15 seconds for the drive to spin up and allow the system to read files from it........This is with regular cd's not dvd's....

Seems like a long time to me....Is this normal for this drive....?

My pioneer is much faster. [EDIT: Just timed it. 7-8 seconds. That's for a 6x slot-load.]

The Pioneer is faster I admit. But the two Pioneers I had was noisy like h£ll. And it did a bad job reading DVDs but was a racermachine ripping CDs. Toshiba 1402 is much much quieter and reads DVDs good, but ripping CDs takes a little longer.

Just MHO

AOD ;)

Storage review said that the pioneer's have a problem with dae quality. Is that true?
