I also took a blowdrier, set it on high to burn cockroaches and ants.

I've found caterpillars gourging themselves on the plants in my backyard so I beat them flat with shovels.

I was a sadistic little kid ;).

Oh yeah... and then there was this one big assed spider (slightly bigger than my thumb) that decided to use the doorway to my apartment for its web. I ducked under it, went inside, and came back out with a can of hairspray and a lighter. I never knew you could make a spider's body glow orange :p

taking a flat shovel to grubs is SOO much fun, especially fat grubs. it just drizzles guts and juices

Spiders aren't exactly insects, but once when I was in a lab, I saw a spider on the ground. I put it in a test tube and gave it a wild ride in a centrifuge. Somehow it survived. I was so amazed that I put a little bit of liquid nitrogen into the tube, and dumped it out back onto the ground, where it promptly shattered. Haha, that was good times.

we used to have bee fights in grade school. we would catch bees and pluck their wings only to meet under the rainbow slide and have bee fights gambling away lunch money.

we would just sit them in the dirt and they would sting one another until one died, declaring a winner.

i took lots of lunch money.

scope in a spray bottle + june bugs or ant hill that has recently been kicked.

in the boy scouts one of the people in my troop caught a tranchula(sp) and threw it into our bond fire...it ran around on fire for a couple seconds and then popped.

or sitting in the back yard with a garden hose sparying wasps out of the air then stepping on them...amazingly i never got stung

Yes the fat green ones. You smack em and green juices go flying...

Once in my dorm, I thought it was a giant mosquito but it's actually a crane fly, I tried to kill with canned air, turned it upside, it would just freeze on the wall and then continue flying again, I tried to own it by spraying half a can of oust on it, it just got very wet and couldn't fly anymore. I finally got pissed and took a newspaper and smacked it hard. Nothing better than feeling the newspaper go thud on an insect. It's so satisfying.

tied thread around butterflies neck area and took them for walks down the street. I was the coolest kid on the block.

and

put motor oil on butterflies wings then put them on my bike handlebars. They were too sticky to move or escape.

Catching crickets and grasshoppers and let them "accidently" jump into a large spider web.

Baseball bat + frogs = mess

*Edit* ah, you said "insects".

Well, the frogs ate insects.

Actually, insects were eating the frogs. Friend had left the frogs we had caught in a bucket; which apparently had some maggot larvae or somesuch in it. The next day, a dozen or so frogs were covered in maggots and were being eaten.

We put the frogs out of their misery by tossing them in the air with a pooper scooper and batting them into a pond.

yea i did that with ants once, but i think i caused the spider more harm cuz i put so many ants in the web that the web was destroyed and the spider didn't know what to do with all of it's food

Caught a huge jumping spider in the house this morning and even took (blurry) pics of it. No torture though, as I have grown out of that - just released it in the bushes outside.

Oh I also trapped spiders in my room with plastic cylinder on top of CD spindles. Then I'd get out my trusty bug killer and electrocute them.

Uh... wasn't that a Beavis & Butt-head episode??

Might have been. Dunno. I don't watch it.

edited my post w/more info.

frogs or tadpoles + bicycyle pump w/needle + demented kids = whole lotta gross fun.

And later adult guilt trip.

I swatted these big biting flies enough to stun them. Then placed them in a container with some sort of smelly stuff like hi-lighters or white-out to get them stoned.

Mixed household chemicals in a bucket, caught insects dropped them in, watched them bubble.

Also hosted garden insect death tournaments. Found the 2 biggest spiders in the garden we could, then dropped them into a glass jar along with 10 black ants and shook it up. They all ran around aimlessly for a few seconds, then one of the spiders chomped one of the ants, and that drove the rest of them mad. The 9 remaining ants then tore all the legs off the 2 spiders.

we would find flys and catch them with one of those small fish nets for fish tanks.. then we'd take it over to the pond, and put the net and fly in and watch it die.. then we'd take a piece of alge from the wall of the pond, and wrap it up, then bury it

Man, you guys are twisted. I just crush them if they bite me, but otherwise leave 'em alone.
