Torrents.....when did these start showing up everywhere?

Now everyone and their grandmother is streaming these things. I'm usually pretty hip on this stuff and it snuck by my radar. Now I'm all 😱

I heard maybe 6 months ago or so and I was in utter disbelief! It's a new uber-geek approach to sharing internet, porn, and other pirated material on the net. Oh, and also sometimes it's legal stuff, like the recent crossfire file. But mainly it's people sharing beastiality and warez. 🙂

I'm assuming you are referring to companies using torrents to distribute things like data. I think 3dmark 2005 has torrents as an option. That's the first time I noticed a company using them.

you have been able to get Linnx ISO on torrents for well over a year, it lesses the bandwidth load buy a ton, it also is virus free and such
its used for lots of legal things as well as lots of non legal things

i use it for anime, its so great for that

So give me a good Torrent client to use then. I've been interested, but when I tried it when it first came out, it seemed complicated.

From what I've heard, this is how Blizzard will distribute World of Warcraft patches. I'd heard about BT maybe a year ago or so, but only recently got a client and learned a bit about it, in large part due to the fact I'll be a WoW freak if the damn thing is ever released, thus will need it.

Edit: I found this guide helpful & informative, for anyone looking to take the plunge.

Windows Installer Link At Top of Page

its really easy

you download the windows installer
run the installer

and its installed.

after that you just click on .torrent files and "open with" bittorrent

itll ask where you want it saved. you tell it, hit ok, and it goes to work. as you download, you also upload. some client allow you to adjust upload settings (since with the bittorrent network, the faster you upload, the faster youre allowed to download)

if you get a client like that, you can max the upload if youre the only on on the connection and wont be needing the net for a while, or keep the upload speed low if youre sharing or want to do something else online 🙂

great software. its easy to find pirated stuff for this kind of thing, but more and more people are using it legitimiately *Without it being a linux ISO*
