Do you guys feel downloading TV shows is really pirating?

I don't really feel it is. I pay for cable, and recently they stopped carrying ABC-HD, so i'm stuck with SD on my 37" 1080p westy - which looks like ass on SD.

Well Lost is one of the few shows i love b/c it looks GREAT in HD... i'm simply not willing to watch it on SD b/c of how awful it looks, so I DL'd the latest one via torrent in HD. It wasn't quite as good as broadcast, but a helluva lot better than SD

Is this really pirating?

Let me clue you ignorant nerds in on something. If you admit to piracy here, you are gone. Got it?

I've been wondering this. Even if the commercials are there, if you skip it (ala tivo like) isn't it roughly the same as not having them to begin with?

So what if i TIVO the SD version AND download the HD version? I'm still receiving the commercials that way - either way they're getting skipped.

So, using the "commercial skip" features on TiVOs and HTPCs is illegal too? Either way, you're not seeing them. So it's illegal now to not watch commercials? Want to extend that to making it illegal to change the channel during commercials? :disgust:

It's not illegal because the commercials have been removed, it's illegal because you haven't paid for the "rights" to watch the show.

So if you're paying for cable - have you paid for the right?

Yes of course it's piracy, but no one cares - I certainly don't.

Didn't they try to make exactly that illegal? Not sure if it succeeded.

technically it is. if they just included the commercials it would be much harder to complain about.
preskipped commercials aren't quite the same as skipping them yourself.
