UPDATE:
Finally killed the painfully slow download & uninstalled BitTornado.

Based on another thread I installed uTorrent & tried again.

Instead of downloading speed of
2 kB/s to 7 kB/s with BitTornado, I'm getting
86 kB/s with uTorrent.

Don't know what accounts for that, but it sure is better with uTorrent!

ORIGINAL OP:
I'm new to bit torrent.

Tried Azureus first, didn't work for me.

Uninstalled Azureus & installed BitTornado.

Even after shutting off the DSL router firewall and also shutting off the McAfee software firewall, so that I'm naked to the wild (max risk!!!), BitTornado's "yellow" icon still shows, which means it thinks it's still behind a firewall.

Ports properly enabled.

My first attempted torrent download is only 58% complete after 16.5 hours.

Download rate dithers between 2 kB/s to 7 kB/s.
Upload rate is around 5 kB/s to 7 kB/s.

Everything about BitTornado is set to its defaults.

Anybody have ideas how to speed it up? Thank you.

It sometimes depends on the file and how many seeds/leechers there are. I'd suggest trying the uTorrent standalone.
