I LOVE my weather radio. The danger here for Louisville isn't until 11 pm or later - right when folks are sleeping. My blaring weather radio siren will be at the ready!

I think they're false alarms or were maybe triggered by an alert a few miles away. They went off when I was eating and there was literally no wind, rain, or thunder at the time.

This line is not a typical big front. It's a conglomerate of super cells that just come out of no where which is why the tornadoes are so strong. Stay alert. We just had one in Paoli IN, looking at the radar it's clear it was a tornado with a nice debris ball.

I'm in South Bend. Not sure if it'll reach that far north, but we've been on tornado watch for most of the day.

So. IL reporting. Had tornado warning that lasted for an hour.. took shelter in Univ's library. Reports suggest that tornadoes have been spotted in surrounding areas.. and tornado watch until 8 PM CST. I am getting sick of these storms.. sigh.

The local news just announced two tornadoes in northern California...and a couple of counties under tornado watch.

We get an occasional small tornado here, nothing like the ones that ravage the midwest and south, more like big dust devils/whirlwinds...but once in a while, we'll get one big enough to damage fences or sheds, and even a house or two.

we really didnt get much here in the north west tip of the county.

we were at dinner when it rolled in. when we got off the highway when we were close to home, we heard the sirens. i went 50 down all the back streets.

That's scary. I remember the Xenia tornado in 74 that nearly wiped the town off the map...

Strong line of storms barreling through Eastern Ohio, into NW PA and now into SW NY. Recently had a tornado warning in Erie, PA, and heading my way. The line of storms is suddenly bowing outward; I can't remember if that's a good thing, or a bad thing.

edit: Storm is well off in the distance still; at least 30 or 40 miles out, but it's lighting up the sky with lightning. (You can't see the bolts, but can see the flashes.) Looks like it's time to grab another beer and sit out on the patio by the nice fire I have going.

Yeah....kind of not fun when they report a tornado that's to the southwest about 13 miles, and it's moving northeast.

What also sucks is that this apartment lacks windows on 2/4 sides, and one of the other sides has only one window. Lots of trees around, too, so any sighting I'd have of a tornado would be either several feet into the neighbor's yard across the street, or as it's passing over the other neighbor's house. 🙁

The warning expired about 45 minutes ago, amidst very low winds, which fortunately stayed that way - now it's just strong storms and flood warnings, probably for the next day. Yay.


I was listening to NOAA radio here for awhile during the warning. How up-to-date is the information there? As in, if a tornado touches down a few miles away, does an "oh shit we're gonna die!" voice synthesizer kick in to tell you exactly where imminent doom can be found, and which direction it's moving?

Wow, after I typed the response above, I went back outside. I could still see stars above me through a little bit of light cloud cover. And it's like a strobe light in the distance. Just looked and the storm had to have been 60 miles away when I was first noticing the not stop flashing. It's half a county away now. Because of the topography or something, the majority of storms pass just to the north or south; and sometimes break up and pass both ways. Looks like this one's going to be a direct hit. Probably no tornadoes or something that bad, but the last time I saw lightning like this coming, it hit multiple trees within a stone's throw from my house.

Back to the bonfire, and I'll probably lose internet (satellite) before I return to the house. 🙂

Means nothing TBH. The surrounding area of a funnel or wall cloud is often surprisingly calm.



It sounds strange but after living in tornado alley for a long time you truly can "feel" when conditions are just right

Excellent light show. High winds, downpour. And the main part of the storm was over quickly. For the actual winds/rain, it was "meh." - not really severe. But about 5-10 miles south of us got hit really hard. No tornadoes, but power outages that continued well into the daylight hours today.
