They have to go down on evga's site because that is where the trade in will come from.

I got a 6800 because I play alot of OGL games... doom 3, NWN, WoW etc However the X88 pro is pretty nice. Again though, at 333 I would just spring the extra few buck for a GT...

To me the choice is 6800 or 6800 GT.... There is a significant difference there. The X800 pro is faster than the 6800 vanilla, but not fast enough to warrant the price difference to me. The GT on the other hand gives you better performance 16 pipes, a more advanced core and more features.

I just don't care for the ATI cards this generation. I REALLY wanted to like them because I've always gone with ATI, but I just dont care for the price/perfromance/feature set I dont see any real reason to consider anything except 6800/6800 GT unless you are a super ATI fanyboy or need something for a SFF

Also, someone mentioned the step up program. In 3 months GT's will be cheaper and you can upgrade to a 6800 GT, if you need to. That's what I planned on doing and I still may, however they 6800 vanilla offers surprisingly good performance.

Yes, I imagine in 3 months they should be down slightly.

Best Buy has the BFG 6800 OC's for $299 and the BFG 6800 GT's for $399. Dunno what memory the BFG 6800's use, but not a bad deal for a card with a lifetime warranty. BTW, the 6800 OC's come with a free copy of Far Cry and both cards have sweet coolers w/blue LEDs

Unbiased opionion: Stock: They are all good cards. Overclocker: the GT is the best bang for the buck. Card modder: any of them if you can get one that will mod correctly. The good thing is you cant go wrong this round :)

I don't see the BFG 6800 on BestBuy's website. Can you link to it.

Having been an eVGA owner and being familiar with the Step-Up program, I don't think it's all that great a deal because their online store prices do not often reflect or even decrease in proportion with market value for a given item. From what I have seen, they generally like to have price drops for a previous generation of technology only shortly after the next generation stuff has started to hit shelves, and sometimes not even then. For instance, have you seen the vanilla 5900 in their online store? Since when has a 5900 128MB been worth $280? And you think they're going to cut you a break when the OEM prices for GT's start going down in a couple months? Good luck with that but I think I'll plan to keep the next video card I purchase for a while, or at least plan on paying in full for a same-gen upgrade.

Speaking of which, I don't see anything on Chaintech's site that guarantees that their vanilla model has the 2.2ns Hynix chips. And I can't find any prices anywhere on the Galaxy model, which does guarantee 2.2ns... the closest thing I've seen to that is the Gainward 2-slot GS model which mostly has 2.2ns and costs in the neighborhood of $300-310. The Chaintech, on the other hand, is only $281... but does it definitely have 2.2ns?

yet another who overmphasies the significance of "# of pipes".. the "crappy" 12-pipe card even beats nv's flagship ultra in some instances.. sheesh. it's not the # of pipes that counts, it that and the architecture in which it's contained.

also intersting that while the x800pro, which kicks the vanilla 6800's ass in everything except d3, is not worth the money over over the 6800, but the GT, which is either slightly slower than the x800pro or slightly faster (again, d3 being the only game with significantly faster benchmarks) is worth the money over not only the pro, but the vanilla as well..

if the PRO and GT are the same price, the GT is the better value imo; though that doesn't necessarily mean it's a better card as it depends on what's more important to a particular individual. at any rate, i'm still running the GT in my main rig, but my x800pro compares just fine with it, and i'd definately get the PRO over the vanillla 6800 at those prices.

I'd get the Pro too.

The 6800 vanilla is not even a competition for it.

The GT on the other hand seems worth the extra $100.

So from $299-$350 get a Pro, at $350 throw in $50 and get the GT.
